yeah, it sounds strange but hell it works...just make sure you wash it again and rinse it off good...then wax it....

If you mixed the rubbing compound with just water and no soapy additives, then all you did was "thin" out the rubbing compound and make it easier to spread. You must keep in mind the rubbing compound has abrasives and polishes that will not break down in simple water.

it should only be used if you need to remove crap off your paint before you wax and polish it.....

you have to wash the vehicle a second time after you do the compouind wash

The dude used polishing compound, NOT rubbing compound. Rubbing compound is a lot more aggressive than polishing compound. I don't see a problem as long as others suggested--wash a second time and get the residue off.

If its 3m rubbing compound, its not that agressive. Seriously, I've used the stuff before and its not bad at all. Flakes a lot though.

someone sells a product meant to be used in this way, I think it might be Meguiars, and it's called something like "paint scrub".

jaidedeye, you're saying that washing the car with the compound is more effective than just polishing the car with it as you normally would?

3M stuff is pretty good, its definately something to try, on someone else's car the first time anyway...
