water explosion?

I was driving back home at like 11:30pm and my car started squeaking real bad from the engine bay and then all this smoke started pouring out. So i pulled over and the engine wasnt overheating it was on COLD so that ruled out overheating. So i shut off the car, and lifted the hood, and the whole engine bay was covered in water. So i guess the belt was squeaking cause of the water, and smoke was steam. I couldn't see anything because it was so foggy, so i drove the rest of the 5 blocks home very slowly. I got home and got out a light, and was looking around. The upper and lower rad. hoses were fine. I poured a little water in the overflow(cause its so dirty i can't see the water line) and it was already at full. So i know it was the overflow. So basically, i had no low coolant light and my cooling components were fine. I was confused, but i looked to the left of the rad, and i guess it's the heater core or something right below the CCRM. It was soaking wet, so was it something to do with my heater that caused all this water to spray out? But, my heater wasn't even on...

What do you think even happened?

that piece your thinking of is for your air conditioner I dont know for sure but I will get rid of the airconditoner piece and you would be fine I think that is called a evaporater but not really sure I dont think it is needed

Did you check out little hose that goes from reservoir to radiator, meybe it come off,check radiator for cracks,HOW about two little/short hoses that runs from water pump to heater cores

How about the bypass from water pump to the thermostat housing?

I had a pinhole in it spraying water.

Coolant leaks can be tough to find, because there's a lot of places it can come from and if sprays in a stream the place you see that is wet won't have anything to do with the leak.

I'm with Nagash01WS6 on this -- check the all the hoses going to the water pump carefully for leaks. It's easy to have a good sized leak that is not visible to the naked eye when it isn't actually spraying coolant.

And one other thing -- just because the gauge says the car isn't warm, don't assume it's correct, be careful when you suspect coolant issues, because the sensor will read ice cold when there isn't any hot water against it. And that's very bad...

THis happend to me, but it was a blown headgasket. The combustion pressure was building up on the coolant and making it blow out of the overflow.

The same exact thing happened to a friend of mine. He changed the HG and all was well.

I tried that, cept i warped the heads. But a new engine is comming soon so screw the e7's....

It doesn't matter if your heater was on or off ...... if that was the problem, having it on or off has nothing to do with it. But I don't think that was what happened anyway.

Give everything a closer look in the daytime & see what you can come up with. After everyting is dried up in there, you should be able to pinpoint the problem.

i found a pinhole in the thermostat bypass hose. It was squirting onto the alternator pulley. So i replaced the hose, hopefully that's it lol.
