Water on my seats.

Hey guys, this is actually my first post here... here it goes.

I just purchased a 1991 GT yesterday, I've been eye balling them for the past few years, and finally decided to get one.

Well, I asked the guy if the sunroof leaked at all, he had always kept it in his garage, and only drivin it in the summer time (so he says) and he didn't know.

Well, it rained real hard last night, and when I went out this morning, I the seats were WET. Wet as in, i had to go back inside, and put a towel on the seat.

It is dripping on both sides, onto both seats, it seems to be dripping in the upper corners, infront of the sunvisors. Seems like it could be leaking through teh windsheild maybe? Windsheild looks like it has a good seal, the sunroof seal is cracking some. Why would it leak all teh way down there? Is there some sort of runoff, or is it my winsheild.

I am fairly mechanicly inclined. I've owned jeeps for years, completly tore them apart, and rebuilt everything, but I am brand new to mustangs, so some good walkthroughs would be helpful.

Thank you very much for reading all of this post.

I just had the windshield start leaking a few weeks ago. The water was coming in through the joint in the black molding that runs between the headliner and the windshield.

When I pulled the trim pieces it looked like there was not enough sealant used when the windshield was installed. I caked some black silicone in there and it hasn't leaked since.

Awesome, that sounds just like what is happening with mine. Right between the headliner, and that plastic piece that runs parallel width wise with the windsheild.

I'll pull it off tomorrow, and spackle that sucker nicely!

Thanks guys, you helped a lot.

Congrats on the car, your going to love it, but keep in mind, it's 15 years old.

Get a garden hose and let it pour on the roof and all and get inside and see exactly where the leak is comming from.

That is a great idea, I am 99% sure it is the windsheild. It should be easy for me to pull off that piece, and check it at least. If that doesn't happen to be the case, i'll try the hose.

Not that this applies in your case specifically. But if the carpet is wet and you left the car out in a heavy down pour; chances are that rain water is bouncing off the ground and in where the drain plugs are supposed to be.

Using a garden hose is a good idea, but in case you can't find the leak... I wanted to mention that posibility.

Ahh, lots of little quirks with the stangs.

Carpet was nice and dry, just dripped on the seats all night, but thank you for that information, i'll keep that in my brain, incase the floor is ever wet.

The seats are now pretty much dry, but, they have a ring where it was wet, any ideas of how to shampoo the seat, maybe clean that ring out?

You basically have to clean the entire seat. The carpet cleaner stuff you get in a can with a scrub brush on it works well. I can't remember any brand names, but it is at most of the major parts stores around here.
Just to a test section, to make sure it won't discolor the fabric.
