So I installed a new 306 in my 93 LX. The guy gave me a used timing cover and edelbrock water pump. I installed all the parts and torqued them down according to spec. I had a leak from the top of the water pump and cover. So I bought a timing cover from ebay and a new water pump from autozone. Installed all the parts and have a leak again from the same place.

It looks like there are bolt holes in the middle of the timing cover that the water pump doesnt have. And it looks like waters coming through those holes. The cover looks like ...Edelbrock 4250 - Edelbrock Aluminum Timing Covers – SummitRacing.com this cover from summit.

Has anyone had the same problem? My guess is that the timing cover is for a different year 5.0. Please any input. I know this sounds stupid but I dont want to order the wrong water pump and it do the same thing.

I am not sure what your talking about with the top 3 bolts. BTW all front covers are the same with the exception of a from dip stick and mechanical fuel pump mounting on the side. EFI covers do not have these things.

If you look at this timing cover Dorman 635-100 - Dorman Timing Chain Covers – SummitRacing.com opposed to this cover Summit SES-5-60-04-201 - Summit® Ford Front Covers – SummitRacing.com there are two small bolt holes next to the coolant passages. I have the summit version timing cover with the bolt passages but the stock water pump i bought and keep finding for a mustang doesnt have bolts that go into those holes. I was just wondering if anyone had this problem before.
