Water Pump...Please Help

Im pretty sure you can get a stage 1 stewart components water pump for under 100$. Its not that difficult of a job.. just make sure you clean all the old gasket material off the timing chain cover.. use a gasket with a thin layer of silicone on each side.
As far as I know, it's just shorter. The V8 Tbirds are close to the mustang, so a Tbird pump might work.
I know the shortest water pump is the explorer. Those are dirt cheap used because lots of people put Explorer short blocks in their mustang and the water pump isn't right. You could probably fix it with a spacer of the correct thickness. Installing the pulley backwards might work, I have an explorer pump, so I'll check it out.

Its a completely different pump.. those cars even have different timing chain covers... I found this out the hard way. I would order a pump from this web site.. http://www.stewartcomponents.com/ . They offer high flow water pumps that will be better then any autozone pump.

yeah, dont cut corners with the cooling system. Get the pump that is designed for your car. Thats one part of the car you dont wanna do wrong!!!

Now that's something good to know! I'd be stupid not to replace my 9 yr old pump while I had it all apart during my H/C/I swap.

i did my W/P at about 60K......busted on the 4th of july and left me stranded on the garden state parkway in Jersey....meanwhile i had to get back to CT. sucked. anyway...the job sucks....getting the old gasket off can take a good hour in itself. you have to take the belt off and you might need to take the crank pulley off. just remember to mark it with chalk in the exact location it was when you yank it. also, prepare for a *****load of antifreeze to dump all o're the place. frig that job. next pump that goes, i'm NOT doing it myself again. absolute nightmare.

when replacing the water pump. do I have to replace the timing cover too? and how does the bolts come out from behind those metal lines, in front of the distibuter, that runs down to the hose at the drives fender, that connect to, what is these lines

No, the timing cover does not need to be replaced when replacing the water pump, unless the cover is damaged somehow.

Water pump in an SN is piece of cake. I've done one in 12 minutes. The Stewart is a stock water pump, there is nothing high flow about it. The new water pumps you get at the store are the same quality, and actually come with a lifetime warranty vs the Stewart one year. If you want a high flow water pump the best deal is the Flowkooler pump from Summit. Also comes with a lifetime warranty. Trying to mix match another pump from another vehicle to save $20 simply isn't worth the effort. The two smaller hoses that are on the water pump are called the bypass hose, and heater hose. They have them at the parts store. You need to cut them down with a razor blade for fit.
