water pump pulley help

I put on an electric fan and the bolts that used to hold the pulley to the hub are way to long what size bolt should i get...I need to know what the thread size is for the water pump hub...cuz I got some new bolts and they seem to only thread on for a turn and stop and get real hard to turn

go to home depot or hardware store theyll tell you what size the thread is i know its a fine thread and your probaly useing a coarse thread bolt

I would have done that however the hub is on the water pump so I wouldnt be able to do that without taking the water pump off

use the bolts that came with the pump and match em up.do you not have em

DOes anybody know what thread the H2O pump pulley bolts are? I don't have the originals and the pump is on the car.

I dont know myself, but here is perhaps something else that would work. Hit the parts store - have them grab a new pump. Then use their selection of nuts/bolts to decide the thread on the pump.
Not what you wanted, but perhaps better than nothing. I wonder too if you called a resto house, if they could look it up and tell ya.

Right after posting that I found it on the web. Well I think I found it, 5/16-24 thread. I pulled one out of the bin at work and will see if it fits when I get home. If it does I will go buy the right ones. I figured doing a search might save a few trips to the parts store. Thanks

I used a hacksaw and cut my bolts shorter. I worked fine for me, just make sure you sand down the ruff areas you make.

The issue isn't the length, it is the thread. I know it is a fine thread but in my collection of hardware NOTHING would fit.
