Water Pump Shaft Cover Split?

Here is a pic of a water pump - the black plastic cover on mine is split right down the middle, but otherwise is intact. Is this an issue I need to repair...immediately?

View attachment 140457 I just ordered a MM Clutch cable (getting hard to find, but I've got one coming), a FRPP Throwout Bearing, and a FRPP Pilot Bearing. I'm going to take it to the shop next week to get these installed and will address the water pump if needed.

I kinda wondered, since it is just plastic...it's like a cap of sorts.
