I recently bought a Fluidyne radiator (new radiator cap) and Black Magic fan hoping that this would cure my overheating problem in traffic. It doesn't help that I live in Phoenix either!

Either way, the new combo has helped but it still heats up. I'm thinking that it may be the water pump (only thing left that's stock). I'm going to have the system flushed again this weekend just to make sure that it's not a clog somewhere. I'm currently running a 172 degree thermostat. Any other thoughts.

Here's what else is contributing to the heat:

Powerdyne 6 PSI
BBK Headers
Lovely Arizona heat

Make sure the air dam is still in place. It is a 2"-3" piece of plastic below and just at the front of the radiator. It sticks out below the radiator. Its' purpose is to help deflect air up through the radiator.

not to rain on your parade, but with the arizona heat you live in, I would have ponied up some more dough and gotten a Ron Davis setup which is located in arizona. They build pretty much the best fan, shroud, and radiator setup you can buy. It helps they are located in Arizona so they know what can deal with the heat and what can't.

Also make sure you don't have collapsing hoses.

It never fails, right after you buy something you find another product that you should have gone with. Story of my life.

In the meantime I'll check the airdam, thanks. If you think of anything else please let me know.

In Southern AZ, you need a horrendously fat cooling fan (I just recently spent 1.5 hours on the freeway to go 25 miles through Phx ).

Were it me, and the issue is mainly occuring while slowed/stopped (and you cool down a bit once up to 30+ mph), I'd swap a different fan on. Even an SN95 fan (on a NA engine) has trouble keeping when it's real hot out.

MHO.
Good luck.

This is why I recommended a dual spal fan setup and custom shroud from Ron Davis. Check their website out and sell the black magic when you get a chance. I have one on my car and it cant keep a motor cool when idling in 90+ degree heat. I do have a viper fan ready to go on but haven't had the time.
