Hey there all,

I have recently got a new stang (V6) and was looking to do some wax on here after her first wash from me. I was leaning towards Zaino...but so many people on here rave about the Meguairs products, I thought I would give them a try first.

My question is which products do you all suggest I shall pick up at Autozone? I know their is some type of 3 step program, but which is the best? What about their new line, NXT or something of the sorts?

Also, what should I wash my car with? DAWN? Mr. Clean AutoDry? I don't know which is good and which is bad? HELP ME!

And when you go wax, is there a sponge that you all use? Or just use an old wash cloth or what?

Thanx all,
Abel

First of All, Do NOT wash your car with Dawn. It's way too strong, and will not only strip wax, but could leave residue that may damage your paint. Save dawn for the rims if you want to use it. The stronger soap you use there the better. I've heard good things about mr Clean autodry, but hand washing with soap works just fine for me. There are all-kinds of auto-soaps you can buy at autozone or wall-mart that are mild enough to use on your paint. I personally use turtlewax gold series soap. Just follow the manufacturer's instructions for diluting your paint and you should be fine.
As far as three step programs go, I don't really know anything about anything but Meguiars, but it has always worked great for me. I would like to try some Zaino polish though, the results I've seen look awesome. The standard for hand cleaning/polishing/waxing is meguiar's deep crystal system. It runs about five bucks per product, but you'll also want to get spare applicators and some terrycloth towels if you don't already own some. A clay bar couldn't hurt either. As to whether you should use Carnauba wax or NXT wax, it's my understanding that carnauba produces a deep, transleucent wet shine that looks good on darker cars, while synthetic waxes have more of a surface gloss shine. If anyone would like to clarify this, be my guest, as I am certainly no expert.
You should definitely check out http://www.web-cars.com/detail/

Heres the ultimate way to get your car extremely shiny.

Step 1 : Mr Clean AutoDry
Step 2 : Meguiars Quik Clay System
Step 3 : Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish
Step 4 : 1 Coat of Meguiars Gold Class Wax
Step 5 : 1 Coat of Meguiars Professional #16 Carnauba Wax

Here's a pic of mine after doing everything except the Deep Crystal Polish (I already did it a while ago)

i work at advance auto parts and i dont know how many people i sell that 3 step process from meguires to. its the best shine out there. meguires also makes a soap that works pretty good. they are one of the best companies to use for cleaning the car. after you have washed it and waxed it and got that shine, when you go to wash it again in the future you can use that wax as you dry that works real well and is easy to use. i always keep a bottle of that quick detailer in my truck and i will put some in my stang as soon as i get it later on this week. if you find it at autozone go to advance and they will price match and beat anyone.

I used the Meguairs system this weekend and the car looks like its brand new(its a 98 Cobra) here's what I used:

Meguairs NXT Car Wash, Meguairs Step one cleaner, Meguairs Step 2 Polish, Meguairs NXT Wax, and 6 100% cotton, deep pile towels to wipe the cleaners off.

The shine is amazing! However it took around 6 hours to do the whole car.

^^ So is that a pretty popular set-up, common for most people to get? So the NXT works good on BLACK then, huh?

What about to clean the windows? I know you aren't supposed to use Windex on tinted windows (or is it ok?), so what do you all use? And the dash as well...what do you guys' use to clean the inside of your car? I have cloth, so no leather cleaner for me, however, the stero area and dash gets the same ol' dirt that need to be cleaned, how do you all go by that?

Thanx Again,
Abel

Don't use Windex on ANY auto windows. It has ammonia and will leave permanant spots. I would say just get anything that says ammonia-free. I use something by eagle one. I want to try something else though, doesn't work that great.

Advance Auto Parts is primarily on the east coast. Its headquarterd here in Roanoke,VA. I think its the fastest growing auto parts store in the U.S.,so it probably wont take too long to get out your way.

Didn't Advance Auto by out Western Auto. I live in Roanoke too my man. Autozone is next on Adv Auto's list of taking out of the ball game. :nice:

Anywhoo, Meguiars is what I use also. Wash, polish, then wax.... :flag:
