I used the guide from the FAQ section which was very good. Just a few easy things were missing but helped a ton. I have no mecanical exp other then this car and was able to do it all.
Friday at 6pm we tore down to the heads/drained fluid
Sat started at 8am tore down to block with everything out around 1 pm. Ran into some issues with exhaust which just made more work.
Sat cont. Used very light brillo pad and some carb cleaner to clean up the pistons. No scrathes got about 80% of the crap off each one. cam timing chain and heads were put on. finished around 10pm
Sunday I had to fight with the exhaust to line up. got up to the lower intake manifold bolted that down with fuel rails. then i try to set the upper down and they dont clear the new VC's
Moday ordered 1in trickflow spacer for my edel brok intake.... dont ask...
Thursday got the part installed and hooked all the tubing up
Attempt #1 FAIL - Negitive bat terminal wire broke in half and had to clean up and rebolt down.
Attempt #2 FAIL - Friend was trying to keep the car running
Attempt #3 ???? - I jump in give it 1/4 throttle car running like **** smoking but i got it to stay on
Attempt #4 FAIL - friend turned timing 2 jumps on the cam instead of 1
Attempt #5 Pass - After i turn the dizzy back i dont even touch the gas, just let it crank, fired up like a charm. Dad came out with a fire extinquisher to be an ass
Attempt #6 Pass - Started adding fuel for tuning and more AIC car sounds really damn mean now.
So all in all I went from shaking the garage to shaking the house with the different cam in there. Just enough lope for me. Going to change the oil tomorrow morning and start street tune. Im not going to bring it about 2.5k for about 500 miles to make sure everything is nice and lubed.
Hope nothing breaks and i get a decent tune on it tomorrow if it doesnt rain. I'm looking forward to see how much more power this cheap setup gives me.
Old setup TB, intake, full shorty exhaust, novi 2000 blower stock pully 3.75in dynoed safe tune at 330+ in 100deg weather
New items - E cam, Thumper ported heads... great porting btw
1.6 ford roller rockers, ford new timing cain. hole setup was pretty cheap. 3.75 Valve covers 2 ports venting to a catch can setup to relive crank case pressuse.
Skiped lifters and pushrods, to me they are peices of metal just like girls are always pink on the inside.
The most confusing part of the whole install was the stupid rocker arms. Every write up I had told me to do it different and use shims then not use shims do one at a time, then do 4 at a time... we went the long way 1 port at a time to 20lb then double checked with the other guide and everything was torqued properly.
DONT JUDGE MY SPEEEEELLLLIINGG
Next summer or 2 summers is a new short block 331 or 347 forged, then fuel rails flip the intake and run an intercooler and more boost. Then meth injection after that if i want.
Shooting for 400-450 at the wheels once its broken in and tuned fully. Still need a mech boost guage the one i have is crap.
