weird kinda banging metal noise

SO check it out the stang is making a weird kinda metal banging noise when I am idling, like a really loud ticking sorta and like someone is hitting the engine with a metal object, when I put it in gear it goes away. Periodically it will make the noise and its almost like the engine wants to stall but doesnt. The car idles rough and drives semi rough at speeds under 50. It kinda seems like a blown head gasket but it isnt smoking out of the exhaust and it doesnt seem like I am loosing coolant any help?

The noise sounds like it's your bearings in your engine.

it could be the a/c clutch heard one make that noise your talking about

hmm

I am thinking that it just might be my starter not retracting all the way, so it periodically hits the fly wheel. I am going to try and lube that or get a new one and see if it fixes it.

I suggest that you bring it to a mechanic to have it checked out. It sounds like it could be a number of different things.
