Hey guys, hopefully you all can help me with this...Whenever I engage my clutch I hear this single "knock" sound. It doesn't continue as my foot is on the clutch, only when my foot compresses the pedal. Another thing that has been happening lately is every so often when I'm stopped I can hear something spinning beneath my shifter, I know it's clutch related because it only happens when the clutch pedal is pushed in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you identify where the knock comes from? There's probably a multitude of things that could cause it, but it does sound clutch/transmission related because of the fact that it only happens when pushing the clutch pedal in (or is it when you're engaging the clutch?). What type of clutch are you running, and with how many miles, if known?
The sound of something spinning below the shifter concerns me more. When I had a T5 going bad, idling in neutral with the clutch out made a nice grinding sound from the excessive clearances in the transmission. You might want to change your fluid, and check if the old fluid has metal particles suspended in it. Mine looked like I poured a packet of glitter in. If it does, start saving ASAP for a new trans, because that one's on its way out.

Sometimes it sounds like it is coming from the rear, but I believe it's actually coming from beneath the shifter. I still have the stock clutch with roughly 95,000 miles on it. I've been looking at Centerforce clutches so I think I might be installing one of those along with a new throwout bearing. The metal on metal spinning sound happens when I have the clutch pushed in...I believe everything is clutch related so I am hoping the new install fixes it all. I plan on flushing all the tranny fluid as well.

I've planned on putting a tko 500 or t56 in there anyways if it gets that bad.

My guess would be TOB, i have seen them make noise like that time to time. I would bet that if you drive it longer it will progressivley get worse until the thing rattles so much you will be scared something will come unglued. If your gunna pull it a part might aswell do it all at the same time. My advice would be to put a new pilot bearing in the crank too for the extra $10. If the pilot is worn it will miss align the TOB and frag it again.

Just take a grease gun and load up the hole in the pilot bearing until is just squeezes out. The take a input shaft or clutch alignment tool and a hammer and smack that bad boy in there. The grease will force the bearing out that is pressed into the crank. May take a couple of goes, just reload the crank with grease everytime. Then when i comes time to put it back in get a socket bigger than the bearing but not the housing and tapper in flush (don't forget to clean out the grease). It will only go as far as it needs to. A 22mm should do the trick and there you go putter all back together. Wipe a little grease on the inside of the new bearing for good measures.

Don't forget to turn the flywheel but i'm sure you knew that too.

Oh ya buy the way usally you can feel it in the clutch if you press it down very slowly hope this helps.
