Weird problem when trying to lock out timing (spout out)

Quick ? guys. When I first got my car it was running locked out timing and ran perfect. Short story quick, the stator went out in the dist. and I replaced it. I been running 10* for a year with the spout in but it just doesn't feel right. So, tonight I try to run locked out timing with the spout out. I figured 26* was a good place to start. Put the mark at 26* and timed it. The weird thing is it will barely let me turn the dist. to 26* it won't budge any further... So it was a little under 26* I did a test drive and the problem is, under load when it gets to 4,000rpms it falls on it's face and shoots up to a little over 5,000rpms until I let off. So I took it back backed the timing down a little more to like 24* or so. It felt a little more retarded but still did the same thing? Whats going on here? Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW the car is basically bone stock.

So in otherwords I'm asking a few questions here.

1. Why can't I turn the dist. anymore by hand past 26* ?

2. What was the cause of my car surging and falling on it's face (goes from 4,000-5,000rpms really quickly and just stumbles) when I ran 26* or so timing with the spout out. Too much timing or too little?

BTW, I replaced my harmonic balancer not too long ago, and when I replaced the dist. my boss helped me and we found TDC and did all that crap. But is it possible that it's a tooth out?
 
Not sure why it's hanging up, unless the dizzy is getting stuck in the bore. Are plug wires keeping you from being able to turn the dizzy further?

I ran at 26* locked-out and it was fine - so it should be able to take it.

It almost feels like when I can't turn it anymore that it's in the shaft part. Like it's just reached the end of it's turning radius. I wonder why when I try to time it to 26* and I test run it, that it falls on it's face like that. It runs good up until 4k and then the rpms shoot up and it feels like a bunch of air going through, no gas and the car littlerly falls on it's face until I let off the gas. It doesn't do this with the spout in though??
 
Since it's ok with the SPOUT in (where you're likely hitting 40* total timing), it shouldnt be an engine management issue or a component issue. Maybe you're right about something binding (I cannot figure out what could bind though).

Normally I'd say to advance it more (I never even tached to 4K hardly when I had mine locked). You might be too retarded at those RPM's. But you cant do that...........

I dunno. Bump for someone who has some ideas.
 
I'm going to play around with it tomorrow and try various timings and runs. I'll check to see where my balancer is at TDC too. I've been trying to get this situation under wraps forever. It also seems weird. When I have my car with locked timing it has this weird shudder around 2k rpms, it just feels rough. But when I run it in locked out timing it runs smooth. Maybee this is why my car had locked out timing to begin with when I bought it? I don't know if that really has anything to do with it, but someone did it for some reason on a stock car, which seems awkward to me.
