With engine off and exhaust cold, bang on the muffs with your hand, or lightly with a rubber mallet. Maybe some tach welded baffel came loose in the muffler and you may be able to re-create the sound by banging on it. Just use discretion, and dont beat the crap out of it.
I had a simular symptom and it turned out to be a washer on one of the bolts between Hpipe and flow tubes (the part between H and mufflers) the bolt had loosened up slightly and the washer would vibrate at certain rpms.
The "bang on it with a rubber mallet" idea is good.
lol, chances are he got the problem fixed within the past 3 years. He posted that in August of 03 I guess the other guys aren't much better, they waited 4 months to reply to the poor fella

By the way, o/r (off-road) H pipes don't have converters, so that probably wasn't it.
