Weld in Mufflers or Cat Back?

Which is better for the cost to benefit ratio. I can get weld ins at the local shop for around 325 including labor and mufflers. I was thinking about boral stingers or flowmaster original 40 series.

Or AM has cat backs of both ranging from 400 to 800. Is there that much of a difference?

Get the catback. Stock GT exhaust is 2.25" I believe, and somewhat restrictive.

Most aftermarket catbacks are 2.5" and are also mandrel bent (maintains the same diameter at the bends).

I'm not a big Flowmaster fan but I love my Magnaflow catback with the included 3.5" tips

If you're strictly going for sound I guess it won't make that much of a difference.

I second the catback option. My theory is if you are going to do it, do it right the first time. Sure it may cost a bit more upfront but the overall product will be nicer.

Ok, thats kinda the way i was leaning too, just wanted to have justification for the extra cash. I plan on installing stage 2 hitech cams in the future. So which exhaust system do you think will sound and perform better? I love the choppy Idle sound and wish not to quite that down but I don't want to have overly loud system as well. Been there don that, i am looking for a system that will let me hear the true sound of the engine and still let me have a conversation without yelling.

You should be able to get weld in mufflers done for under 200$ easy. 300$ is outrageous! That guy is trying to screw you.

I had weld in mufflers done on my old 86gt: 70$ for each mufflers plus 50$ to weld them in...

150 welded for me..and that was with mufflers from craigslist.

Hey go to completeexhaust dot com and check out the Magnaflow cat back. Call and ask for forum special and get it for $359 shiped. I love my Magnaflow exhaust. 2 1/2" mandrel bends trumps 2 1/4" stock which have the bends that crimp even smaller.

I got Magnaflows welded in for $200 at a local muffler shop and I am very happy with them.
