Is there a big difference between the two in terms of sound? I'm trying to save money by going the weld-in route, will the exhaust tips give me trouble? (not lining up correctly and stuff like that) Anything else I should be aware of?

There is a small sound difference due to the aftermarket system's pipes being larger (2.5") and mandrel bent. They also flow better, giving better hp #'s.

But... it's not that big of a difference if you want to save some money.

BTW- what muffler's are you looking at?

i just went ahead with the full catback rather than weld ins because if I wanted the larger exhaust later I would have to buy em anyway. Might as well spend a little more and only have to do it once was my line of thought. But if youre sure youll be happy with the weld-ins I go for it, i just couldnt be sure.

I went with weld in 40 series flowmasters. I think they sound good. i too had this debate before i got them. I am glad i went with the weldins. the extra 300 or 400 for 1/4 larger of a pipe and some tips was not really worth it. This is also what the exhaust guy told me. So i took that money and saved it so i can get some headers or a off road x pipe. Just my .02 all the sound clips in the world will not do you any good If you have the money and plan on future mods i woudl go with the cat back.

The avg price for weld ins is $200, and the entire catback is like 379-399. So it is not 3-400 more.

I just had my Borlas welded in, A strait through muffler welded in will still out flow a chamberd style cat-back.

I still have the stock H-Pipe and have no problems stopping cars with aftermarket H/X and a cat-back.

People expect way to much from H/X pipes and cat-backs. Dual 2.25" is enough for a N/A 4.6.

I went the weld in route and I'm happy with my set up. I didn't like any of the exhaust tips on the cat backs. I installed MRT tips after I welded in the series 50 flows. I like it.

My welds ins 40 series were 200 with labor and tax and everything. :hail2: For a cat back on a cobra (IRS) with labor tax and parts it was 595. that is what i was quoted from a few places. Ford quoted me 150 dollars labor muffler shops quoted me between 75 and 150. I would go with the weld ins. Inless you want to upgrade another part of the exhaust later then cat back.

You gotta do what I did; get the 40 series for $40 a piece off e bay, and have a friend, who can weld, help ya.

Final cost, $106.

Well it would be nice if your friend can help me but you are on the other side of the country. :)

After reading some of these posts, I think I'm leaning towards the cat-back. I don't want to choke up the Prochamber that I'm getting in the future.

I went the weld in route wiht my Bullets at first...total cost of mufflers plus install was $150.00

Then I decided to go with Spintech Prostreets for a louder more muscular sound. Parts and Labor at the same awesome muffler shop was $170.00

You won't notice the difference in performance between weld-ins and catback...if you're on a budget, go with weldins as it gives you the option of swapping mufflers later on w/out crying over cutting off parts of a brand new catback.
