weld-ins vs. catback

unless you don't care about performance, don't half-ass it. get the full cat-back. i got my Magnaflow cat-back for less than $320 shipped to my door.

Riiiiiiiiighttttt.........

You MAY see 4-5hp with a catback system... MAY

My 40 Series flows welded in cost me $150 with labor. Compare that to the $350-400+ youll spend on American Thunder or most other catbacks out there.
Dont get me wrong, if you want the all out sound then go for the full catback, they are a bit louder than just welding in mufflers. As for performance, your not going to see but maybe a 1-2hp difference in doing a full catback instead of mufflers. Its up to you though. Regardless you will be very happy with that Flowmaster sound :D
Of course there is always the idea that Im just not concerned with performance :D

on a stock setup you aren't going to see much of a gain either way, but clear up the bottleneck (IE: h-pipe) and the increase over the stock cat back pipes grows. that's why i mentioned performance.

have you ever compared the stock cat back pipes to an aftermarket set? the stock pipes are bent like crap.

Are our pipes crimp bent? I feel ashamed I haven't been under the stang enough to notice :bang:

Yes, unfortunately they are - have a look directly behind the wheel, for clearance, they pinched the pipe right there for you to see. High flow (or no) catted X or H is definately the restrictive part though and you save some weight over stock also. I too was going to get the weld-in route and still think it's a good choice. I like the Steeda SS mufflers as an option but after seeing the crimping and pinching of the stock exhaust, I went for the FRPP catback instead. I also had an aversion to taking off the stock SS mufflers and welding in mufflers that weren't SS, so cost of SS type mufflers was only about a $50 delta.

I have an idea...

Weld in some mufflers, put a turbo or blower on it and don't worry if the pipes are crimped or mandrel-bent. Just force the air through it!

Seriously, if you care about a few extra HP get the catback. If you just want the car to sound good, get some weld-ins. Either way get an off-road H-pipe=sounds great and gives you a few extra HP!
