Well, after my VT engines horror story, what engine builder should i go with.

trying to decide between 3 that are left but any other suggestions are welcomed.

im still going to go with a forged stroker shortblock. the question is whos?

im looking at MPH, MMR, anf Foxlake.

i know that MPH is prob. the popular choice and MMR is the cheaper route. however, i have fox heads and cams and they have been working great and accomplished the power needs they were supposed to. now i like the price of the MMR and how they advertise the engine alone will pick up 40rwhp and 40rwtq. all strokers should be gaining around this power but the others dont advertise it. in fact MPH said that strokers are not benificial....that kind of turned me off to them because a stroker should gain at least some lowend tq. MPH also said they never build strokers so that is another reason that has me thinking either of the other 2.

what do you guys think? who would you go with and why?

Now that you have the chance to do it over, big bore modular 5.0 from MMR. That would be my choice - otherwise just stay stock cubes to save some money??

I guess I missed it, but what ended up happening with you and VT, did you get your money back or what?

i didnt want to bring that into the threat, but no....i didnt get crap! i paid a little differently through a friend and that is why im having problems getting credited.

i might be out.

i considered just selling the car and getting something else because i was so mad.

but making this car the way i want it to be was my goal so im not giving up. the engine was the only and very last thing i need for the build. so i just couldnt give up because of some ripoff artists.

however i will be spending double the money.:(

i didnt see that on MMR site unless you mean the MMR 4.6 Race 325 Cubic Inch, 5.3 Liter Stroker Mod which is a big bore engine. however, its an aluminum block whick means i need additional timing cover and numerous other parts to make it work. its a pita. plus its 7 grand!!!!!!!!!!!!! id love to get it but its too much especially after loosing the money to VT.

i was looking at their MMR 5.0 STROKER Street Mod 950 (up to 950HP)

MMR has a thread on corral.net classified (down right now tho) about the 5.0 stroker rotating assembly and blocks. I'd suggest MMR too, bring up what your looking for in the thread, he has deals. Real honest as far as what gains you'll get, how much power it will hold, and pricing too.

whats the difference between the melling oil pump and the mmr one they use on their engines. the mmR custom one is 100 bucks cheaper. however the other 2 companies use the melling so i figure its the best.

makes me wonder why mmr dont use it and if it is to cut costs.

oh, i see what u are saying. so just get the bb block and throw in regular crank?

oh no, this brings up the bb vs stroker battle again. i didnt think i would have to think about that. i just figured that i would never spend that huge amount of cash on the bb. this block makes it more reasonablethough and its iron so no troubles!!!!!! god damn, not i dont know if i want bb or stroker. :jaw:

actually, a stroker assembaly isnt that much more expensive, but on top of the price weather its stroker or not id have to pay to have it all put together. that would have to run a grand or 2 wouldnt it? i dont think its worth it. that is what they charge for the already built version. so i guess im back to the origial plan....stroker.

lets get some more opinions on which companies stroker block!!!!!!

The stroke:bore ratio on our motors already weighs heavily in favor of stroke, so adding even more stroke without increasing bore has less torque and horsepower gains than increasing bore alone. However, with both there is no replacement for displacement :rlaugh: Cubes is cubes in the end. Then of course you have the arguments about strokers and exposing the piston skirts outside the cylinder walls excessively, piston slap, rings wearing out faster, extra oil consumption, blah blah blah. I dunno how much of it is :bs: though

Stroke/poke>BB>Stroker>stock displacement - at least that's the rule of thumb I've always been told :flag:

EDIT: oh and it's not a grand to put it together, it's a couple hundred bucks max from MMR. Then another couple to ship it (I think they quoted me around $350-$400). I would think you could do a big bore for $5k or so.

All I can say is stokers really don't make any difference on a twin screw setup. For one, a buddy of mine with a 302ci KB 2.8H 03 Cobra is making far less tq than my 281ci 2V at the same boost level. Sambandit, an SVTP member, had a built 302 put in his KB 2.2L 03 Cobra and gained only 6rwtq and the hp stayed the same. MPH tuned both built 281 and 302ci cars and they both seem to be having similar results with the same or similar blower setups. Again, these are twin screw setups. I cant really comment on how they'll affect centris.

what i dont get is how you can increase displacement with the stroker but not gain anything? also how is it that guys gain na hp on stroker blocks but these other guys with the cobras are gaining nothing?

i always understood that with a stroker you should gain 30 or so rwhp. MMR claims it.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. I was just going by results I've seen.

Here's someone with a nearly identical setup as my car, but with an MMR 302.

http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71483

Our #s are nearly identical. Our dyno graphs (page 3) are also close to identical.

Sorry to confuse you even more lol. You really can't go wrong with either block IMO. It's like a chick choosing between two of her favorite positions.

I think part of the problem is that , while increasing cubes, the heads just can't keep up. In the end, no matter what size motor you have, heads can only flow so much, so you get to a point where the compression is still reached at the same point BTDC and you make no extra power.

Have you considered Modular Performance at all? If not, I suggest you give John at modularperformance a call.

I will say it right now, I am not a fan of MMR. You got screwed by VT, do a search on other boards and you will find quite a few unhappy and pissed off MMR customers.

I don't know if things have changed but MPH does not build their own motors, they come from Proline I think. MPH customers will correct that.

I have seen and heard of a few builds out of Foxlakde but only heard of 1 unhappy Foxlake customer. Foxlake would be my choice of the 3 you mentioned.

N/A, Strokers don't gain any power, they actually lose power. They see gains below 4000 RPM, after that point, the stock displaced motor will overtake a Stroker for HP output.

I'd go with MPH. I don't have their motor or anything, but I've never seen anyone stand behind their work like MPH does. That is worth more than the 40hp you might gain going with someone elses stroker setup.

Just my opinion.:nice:

thanks for the replies guys! there are many good ideas and opinions here. the last thing i want is to get screwed over again. this time soeone would have to die!.....j/k, but not really.

anyway, i see what you saying in the other thread about the stoker not making much more then the regular stroke. however, i still think id like to give the stroker a chance i think. they are not too much more expensive.

the only thing i dont want is the problems associated with the stroker, which some i believe are false. when i bought the first vt stroker the same disscussion took place. not sure, but i think most of the problems seemed like not much of a worry. guys from vt were in the thread defending their stroker engine. not that at this point i would believe them. anyway, at the time it seemed that they were credable and a good company. they were posting pics of howthe pistons would not leave the cylinders.

anyway, i dont want the problems not sure if hey are a concern, i want a block i can have last for a long time.

i also am really considering the MMR bb withOUT the stroke as that could be my price range once im ready to buy. hoeaver, im a bit weary about MMR. trust wise i think i like foxlake as dealt with ron before for heads and cams and everything ws great.

last thing i want is to be screwed again. this time someone wold have to die...j/k, but not really.
