Well, after my VT engines horror story, what engine builder should i go with.

hotmustang, i have to agree with you there. i dont hear much either, that is what im trying to find out. just because they are good at porting heads dont mean their engines stay together. good point.

im leaning that way but it will be a couple of months so my mind will change i know it. :D

If you are set on using Foxlake, talk to dhof303( Derek ) at Modular Depot, he has a Foxlake built motor in his wife's Turbo'd 05 Mustang GT. It is still running strong and he is happy with it so far to date. I would have to look a little harder but I could find another 1 or 2 Foxlake built motors.
 
well, leaning toward fox or finding someone around here. i like the idea of having someone close. i just dont know who is good around here.

Theres a shop in Collingswood that built a guys 4.6 2v and its held up well under boost for several years. I might have my Teksid machined and assembled there.

If you decide to mail order i'd go with ModularPerformance or Fox Lake since you are comfortable with them.
 
I was planning on going with MMR for my own build. But when I came across a complete engine for 300bucks.. i decided what the hell, I purchased it, and just finished tearing it down, and while the car is being built to handle the power i wanna make I am building the motor on my own. I have the tools and sources and have put motors together in school before. I will have machine shops hot tank and bore/hone the cylinder walls so its a like new block. Then i will by the internals and install myself. Then i know if anything goes wrong it was my fault, and only i will know whats inside the motor and what could have gone wrong.

Personally though i have followed your story, and i would go with whoever your most comfortable going with. Whether it be MMR or fox lake or taking your won route like im doing, but as always dont cheap out and do it right the first time.
 
I have had nothing but great service from MMR, and I highly recommend them.:nice:

I have had my MMR MOD 900 SB for 2 years. and it has ran flawlessly and has made great power for The mods and the amount of boost I run.

I have put about 60 passes and about 17k worth of very hard miles on it. I have hit the rev limiter more times than I care to remember. Leaned it out pretty good last spring when I had a fuel line pop off in the tank. Over heated it pretty good one time when I broke the belt. I was power shifting coming on to the freeway and missed a gear causing it to hit the rev limiter and throwing the belt.

Every time I go to the track I drive 90 mile each way . Then I beat on it and drive it back, So far it has ran strong and uses no oil and seems to run stronger every time I take it to the track.
 
im not sure if i clearified. i was reading over the whole thread looking for ideas. anyway, i will be running a novi2000 15-17 psi on whatever block i choose.

it will not be n/a. that might have an effect on the stroker, i dont know. apparently strokers dont have any benifit on the kb blowers that i can see. maybe centri is different.
 
been looking into that 5.0 bore block "boss" on mmr's website. it dont give too much info. is that a 5.0 block or a 4.6 bored to 5.0? also how would other parts fit and bolt up.

im not looking for any extra work drilling coolent passages of finding correct timing covers like id have to do with an aluminum. does anyone know for sure if there is other work or modifications that has to be done with this block?

i remember threads about putting 4valve heads on the regular 2 valve motor and people saying that the compression will drop too low or something to that effect.

i bring this up because it states the block will blot right up to 2, 3, and 4 valve heads. wouldnt there be some different compression outcomes with this?????

Of course since each type of head has different sized combustion chambers it would effect the compression ratio. Just make sure you tell them what head you plan on using. They have several different pistons to match the compression ratio you are looking for.
