Looks like I will be needing new brakes pretty damn quick as I can hear metal to metal contact from the right front rotor. I went to look at buyfordracing and it looks like they don't have the calipers I need if I wanted to swap to 13" rotors anymore I guess the next best option is from LMR. I know ppl on here arn't too fond of BFR but they had the best price on these by a pretty good chunk of change.

1994-04 Mustang SVE 13" Cobra Style Front Brake Kit at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

What are some of the opinions on that kit?

Could be something as simple as your pad is worn through to the backing plate. Happened on my right rear brake and ruined a wheel and my rear bumper from brake metal shavings, but that was an extreme case.

If it's a seized caliper or something, perfect time to upgrade. I've heard good things about LMR's kit.

I haven't had the time to fully inspect it yet but I have been feeling that the brakes haven't been a fluid stop for quite a while now but I heard metal on metal and the car slightly shakes when braking from a higher speed to lower quickly. I can still coast/slightly brake it without any noice but being I drive in the city I need to get it fixed asap. Last time I was doing the quick fix and that was only a year ago.. I threw new pads at it and called it a day. Yeah, I screwed up and didn't even resurface the rotors. The whole setup is stock and has 90K on it all now so I am really considering that if I need pads and rotors I might as well add the larger calipers now.

Brake shake/shimmy is most commonly a warped rotor.

Now is as good as time as ever to go with the Cobra brakes, haha.

If you are tighter on money, the Cobra front brakes can be had for cheaper than that.

-Reman 03/04 Cobra calipers and BRACKETS (by far the hardest thing to find) from O'Reilly for $80 each. $160 total.
-SS brake lines from whoever you want them from. Roughly $70.
-Rotors from DRT-Sport (very high quality rotors). $120
-OEM pads. $70

Or if you still want cheaper (albeit lower quality), go with the Brakemotive rotors and pads on Ebay. $95

Adds up to $420 for high quality pads/rotors, or $325 for sufficient-for-most pads/rotors.

Just something to think about.

Indeed it is. Does O'Reily's just stock whatever they have and if they don't have it they don't have it?

Yea, I think so. Each O'Reilly I went to either had the 03/04 calipers/brackets in stock, or they could get them the next day.

Also, considering you are in an entirely different part of the country, maybe try and see if you can get ahold of just the brackets for the Cobra calipers, or if the earlier Cobra calipers might come with the brackets. In this area anyway, the ONLY way to get the brackets was either like I described earlier (WITH the 03/04 Cobra calipers), or through Ford (which wants like $80 PER bracket ).

HOWEVER, I have been told that sometimes the older calipers would come with the brackets (I didn't have any luck with that around here). The 96-98 Cobra calipers (which are exactly the same) can be had for around $45 each around here, which is a STEAL if you could get them with the brackets or if you could find the brackets at a reasonable price.

I'd definitely check into that as well. At $45 per caliper, you are looking at a $250 Cobra brake upgrade, or $360 for top-of-the-line rotors and OEM pads! Talk about a deal!

Yep thanks man I did some looking at vatozone and it looks like they have the remanufactured calipers but no brackets to go with em, and they were 100 each. Not bad but not great either. It didn't look like O Reilly's had any either in my area (78013 or 78726 zip). I obviously haven't called to verify if they can or can't get them but its not looking good so far. If I had planned a bit better I would already have everything or close to it but nah I'm a last minute person.

Check that, looks like autozone can do a loaded setup which includes caliper, bracket and cheapo pads and those are 145 for each side (also a 47.00 core charge but since I won't be returning mine I won't be able to get that). So it looks like 300 for calipers, brackets and pads. After that I would need some rotors that are 50 each and then SS brake lines for another 20 or so and then I would need banjo bolts and clamps right or is that included in the loaded setups? Man this is why companies just budle the stuff you need vs you trying to hunt every piece down.

Also, if my calculations are correct, its still 450-500 for these parts at autozone and for a little more I can get it from LMR with paint (not the paint scheme/color I would prefer but I'll live) and make sure I have everything I need. Hmmm

Because you can get it with paint & as a COMPLETE package, I would buy it from LMR. Especially since it's only $50 - $100 more.

Loaded Single Calipe/Brake Caliper Loaded Single - Front (RC11014) | 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra 8 Cylinders Y 4.6L SFI DOHC SC | AutoZone.com

Does that piece include the banjo bolts? I see bolts but are those included? They have pretty vague details.

Past that I would still need the SS lines, Rotors and some of the fittings for the lines and I'd be good to go right?

Hey Will if you haven't done this upgrade yet or anyone else who wants to do it, might want to save this site: Brake Rotors Drilled and Slotted,Hawk Performance Brake Pads,Car Brakes,Brake Drums,Cobra, discbrakesrus

I have not purchased anything yet from them but it seems that they have everything you would need, you can even buy the brackets seperate so if thats what you need you can get them there. Also, they have different coating/lettering options available too.

Yea, I'm running their rotors (drilled and slotted) and pads all the way around my car right now.

They are GREAT quality for the money (can't beat $175 for new ceramic pads and rotors, front and rear), but they leave a little to be desired.

The zinc coating looked good for a while (~8 months), but since then, it has gone downhill quite rapidly. I've had mine for over a year now, and the certainly look better than the ones that were on the car before, but they do have a significant amount of rust on them now.

The pads have deteriorated similarly. For the first 8ish months, they were great. Not one bit of noise, great stopping, very little dust. Well now, they do make some noise unless I really mash on them, and they dust a noticeable amount.

If you do get new rotors, I wouldn't get drilled ones unless you REALLY like the look of them. They don't improve performance, and they are more likely to crack if you really push them (like at an autoX event).

About 4 months ago I was contemplating the same thing. I ended up getting PowerStop drilled and slotted Rotors, SS brake lines, and hawk HPS pads; all for the front. All in all I spent about 270 (120 for the rotors-on sale), 80 bucks for pads, and 70 for lines. And took me 30 mins to install. Probably the best amount of money I've personally spent, for the biggest/most difference in "feel". I'm not saying you shouldn't upgrade to Bigger brakes, but I didn't see a need since I'm not constantly road racing. On second thought, My drive to work is always a time elimination round....lol

After narrowing it down a little bit I am leaning more towards not going with the LMR kit. The bright red paint and the even the 'SVE' letters are both less than desired by me personally. The only option without getting crazy expensive for custom powdercoating is the 01 Bullitt setup and the running pony is what I want (currently the stock GT brakes are painted black with a white running pony logo). So here is what I am thinking...

1994-2004 Mustang Bullitt Front Brake Calipers - Pair - 1994-2004 - Brakes & Calipers - Home for your Ford Mustang
1996-2004 Mustang Goodrich G-Stop Stainless Braided Brake Lines - 1994-2004 - Brakes & Calipers - Home for your Ford Mustang
and some rotors from the place SRTHandz got his from. (He said 90 approx and I have yet to get a solid quote but if its true that is a good deal for a good quality).

All in all that tops me out for everything for the front at 480 minus shipping for the rotors. That's 70 bucks cheaper than LMR and I don't have taxes on 500 bucks which is close to 50 more. All in all I am much happier in that route and I will be ordering soon so long as the rotors are close to that 90 range.

1 question I do have though. I know the front does most if not all of the braking work so the rear will just be the stock GT setup. No biggie there but I may not have the funds to go same rotors and I highly doubt the pads will be the same brand/type front and back. Is this a concern or nothing to worry about at all? Obviously when they need to be done again they will be the same, but it doesn't make much sense to get new pads in the new calipers just to throw those out for some Hawks for another 100. If I could NOT get the pads for 50 bucks cheaper then I would but it isn't an option.

After doing some research it seems that BlueOval and BFR are competing for who has the worst customer service/parts out there in the aftermarket world. The tread I was reading over at the Corral was 3 years old but it doesn't sit too well with me. Has anyone personally dealt with them? The more recent the better.

I had no problems with buy ford racing. My brakes got to my house in less than a week in perfect condition.

I bought these: (they seem to go up in price every 6 months)

Yea I did check them out. When I first started the search about 2 weeks ago they didn't have it on their site. Looks to me like they got a new stock and went up on the price a little as well.

BFR is only 15 bucks cheaper than BlueOval so whichever has the best 'reputation' is who I will go with as 15 bucks is nothing to worry about so long as the company is good.
