Fox Well I screwed up again...

Wanted to put this in it's own thread since my other one I had a lot of other stuff going on... with asking about other parts...

In looking into weather I should just get a reman dizzy... I happen to notice it looks like I installed the wrong Ford racing time set... I installed M-6268-A302 which has a steel crank gear, and cast cam gear... I should if bought the M-6268-B302 which has the steel cam gear...

So now, I do need to use a cast dizzy gear now right? ( I know they say flat tapped cams use cast iron dizzy gears and rollers use the steel, but it really has nothing to do with the cam, is the cam gear that comes in the timing set right...which either will bolt to cam ) so in this case I screwed up and got a cast cam gear that I installed on my E303 cam, so now I will need a cast dizzy gear???

I bought that a couple years ago, been stock piling parts for past 5 years... I just assumed since I was looking for the parts for my year on LMR the stuff listed were right... they list both... and the one I got came with a new thrust plate and dowel where the other didn't, so I thought that was the only difference... Of course it's all together now.. just need to install dizzy, rest of stuff to fire motor this spring...

**** Update : so I called Ford racing help line... and there telling me I'm fine, I use the steel distributor gear... Which I guess I still not getting this, he tried to explain, something about the gear is not running against the cam... it's bolted to it so its doesn't wear... ok I'm lost... does not the cam gear from the timing set not get bolted to flat tappet cam the same way? My thinking is the cam timing gear and distributor gear (since they mesh together) need to be the same material? (cast to cast & steel to steel)???

Yes...same material...steel to steel. The timing set doesn't determine the distributor and camshaft gears. It rides on the front of the camshaft and should be fine.

I've installed those kids on several cars.... people do what you did a lot when ordering timing kits. I think it's just an older part so it's associated with the flat tappet cams. The kits my customers bring sometimes even have the fuel pump eccentric included. You'll be fine.

yeah I just was going to post a NVM, I'm a moron.... I was over thinking it... I completely forgot that there is a gear built into the cam.... I was thinking the timing set cam gears is what the dizzy gear worked with.... I swear I'm losing my mind!!!!!!!

If someone could delete this thread.....that would be great...
