that bottem arrow has a missing bolt. the top arrow is where the valvebody bolts together from the other side......

the thing marked "this thingy" is the shifter detent.....it's what controls your shifting, as in which gear is selected. Not hard to fix just make sure you have all the bolts back in before you try to run it again!

well the thing is...the bolt hole that holds the shift detent down is stripped out. im thinking i just have to get a new one...unless there is some way that i can tap it out. there are no thread in there are all

Time for a Helicoil insert. See your local auto parts for the insert kit which will have the inserts, drill bit, tap and helicoil installation tool.

i just dont think they have anything that small, but ill have to check it out tomorrow. i might have some in the tool box at work also. well that definetly gives me some hope in getting this thing running without buying a new one. do i really need to do the other one or just the shift detent? there is no way i can get the bolt through the top without taking it out. thanks jrichker

i had one of my screws strip out and had to put a thread kit in it. I used a kit from a company that I bought from my local fastner store (place that carrys bolts, rivits, nuts and stuff) it wasnt heli coil though, it was a solid steel insert, I'll look in my tool box this afternoon and get the name brand.......but I do know its much better than a heli coil as its not thin metal its more like a solid bushing.
good luck

http://www.ezlok.com/

here is the name brand. I just called up Bayou Fastners and they told me what brand it was. Then I looked it up on yahoo search engine. So that is the correct link.

well i got everything put back together and now i have another problem. the car shifts into every gear, but its just dead in second. it will drive in 2nd until you start getting into gas and than it feels like the tranny is locking up because the rpms will start dropping. it drives perfectly in first gear. im wondering if its just because the fluid needs to recirulate through everything. i like it idle for like 5 minutes and ran it through the gears a few times before i took it out. PLEASE HELP ME!

i just replaced the screws that had come out. the screws i used were exactly the same length also. i think it might just be that the fluid needs to fully circulate. it did this a little bit when i first drove it after i got it put in. ill just have to wait and see tomorrow morning. the pan was off the car all night last night and all day today...so it lost quite a bit of fluid...but i got it filled back up tonight before i drove it down the road. i dont know, its really hard to describe

This should be able to be fixed by just drilling them and tapping them oversize,or helicoiling. I think at least one of the bolts that holds the detent spring in place also is a valvebody to case bolt, so at least one of the missings threads is in the case.

I would carefully drop the valvebody, and check the holes. You may be able to chase the existing holes and threads with a tap, and go deeper, and use a longer screw.

These are just smaller than 1/4 inch, and there should be helicoils available in that size. Or perhaps a slightly larger metric size could be tapped in there.

so...if these bolts that i put in didnt go through the thin metal plate on the top side of the valve body than it wont work? i tapped the holes but it felt like the tap was bottoming out on something....maybe it was that thin metal plate. i might end up taking the valve body out if i cant do it without springs and **** flying everywhere and than not being able to do a damn thing with it. i dont even know what bolts to take loose to get the valve body out of the tranny.

ps. i got everything bolted back up, put fluid in it. started it up, checked the fluid, ran it through the gears, let it warm up for a few minutes, ran it through the gears again, and checked the fluid again. could it just be that the fluid didnt have time to get everywhere in the tranny for it work properly? there is no way that putting two bolts back in the valve body would cause a tranny to stop shifting into third to not wanting to drive in second. i wish i knew someone around here that had a single ****ing clue what was going on with a c4 tranny

i know what yu mean, my friend matt just got his c4 in his 86 gt. he just ost second this last weekend, it's like another first gear for him, but then again...every gear is like first gear cause he's got a 4k stall in it ( i know i know, i said wtf too) but 'ill call him and see if he knows anything about it.

call dynamic and talk to Harold Miller, he can tell you anything about a C-4 that there possibly is! Trust me, he's been building C-4s for prolly 25 years or more! He has prolly seen every possible situation with a C-4 and or their valve body. Good luck.

well im thinking that its the valve body. the fluid wasnt burnt, it didnt have any sort of debris in it like burnt clutch material or band material. it worked fine before the bolts fell out of the valve body also. i just find it hard to believe that my car could put enough stress on a c4 to blow out one of the gears, ya know. id like to get some more opinions on this if anyone has any. thanks
