well making plans for a 408, need advice on machine services..

I'm trying to get a good idea on what it would cost to have a 351w block prepped.This will be my second rebuild on this motor

Its a 84 block with standard bore, reworked by me in 1995, driven on the street a year (2500+-500 miles)then set-up till now. I don’t remember what I had done to it except that I reused the original pistons, had the block honed.

Ultimate plan is a 408, so it would be new rods, pistons, crank etc. from a kit

What is the typical work a machine shop does in my situation? Should I get everything below? Do you think i'll need all this?Is there anything you'd advise i do?

looks about average to me.

Many stroker kits can be order balanced (basically that cost goes to the manu rather than the machine shop) and the good kits will be clearanced already to fit in a stock block...if you have pay someone to clearance the block to fit the kit, instead of clearancing the kit to fit the block, that will add alot to the total machining bill.
 
Seems high to me, I had my R302 block completely machined, clearanced, heads oringed and rotating assembly balanced for 650.00. The R302 takes a little more machine work than an exsisting motor does. Dunno if I can dig up the recipt though.
 
if there is any clearancing that needs to be done with the stroker kit (usually just rod bolts) you can do it yourself with a die grinder or dremel toll with a carbide bit. alos i'd be careful about getting the mains honed unless they absolutely need it, everytime the block is align-honed your timing chain will become a little looser. i've seen blocks that people had the mains align-honed on every build and after 2 or 3 builds they would have timing problems because the chain was loose enough to cause erratic timing fluctuations, this especially critical if you ever want to run a belt drive setup or a timing gear setup instead of the chain.
