Wells aftermarket IAC is uninstallable

I posted on here a week ago that I installed a new Idle Air Controller (IAC) and it made my car idle at 3000 rpm...I have a 95 gt with 125k and it would have trouble starting from time to time.....I disconnected the battery, checked all connections...etc....I almost crashed my car driving through the neighborhood because the car wanted to keep going. I had to leave town for a week and was not able to work on it til this weekend.

I was pretty frustrated as to why my car would idle so high.

Today, I looked at the little instruction booklet that came with the IAC from Wells that I bought from Autozone. The instructions specifically say: THE NEW IDLE AIR CONTROLLER MUST BE INSTALLED IN THE OPPOSITE POSITION COMPARED TO HOW THE ORIGINAL IAC IS INSTALLED...

Arrggghhhh.. ...but the stupid IAC from Wells cannot be installed in the opposite position because the oil filler spout is in the way. I called Autozone and they assured me that this is the one that fits the 95GT.

Anyway, I took the crappy Wells pos off and put my old one back on, but when doing so, I somehow had put the bottom bolt in crooked and the freaking bolt broke off. I took the TB off, tried to remove the bold, tried to drill it to remove it....but it was a disaster....anyway, I put it all back together again with 2 gaskets, minus the bottom bolt and it is working fine now. I plan to replace the oem TB anyway, so it is no big deal.

That is how that brand of IAC's installs on foxes - upside down. I made a reference to it on the fox idle surge sticky. Perhaps I should amend my post to reflect that it appears to be true for SN's as well.

Sorry to hear all about that. Scott has said that the units from Pep Boys (BW perhaps) work well.

I saw the word "autozone" in your post. Almost made me cry. I have never had a good experience there. Ive bought so many bad parts from there it isn't even funny.

Id rather carve my auto parts out of wood then buy em from autozone.

Thanks, I need to start ordering my parts on line.....Advance Auto has plenty to choose from (Borg Warner oem looking IAC for instance, with no flip around) and I can pick it up next day at my local store.

The borg warner part looks exactly like the factory one and works great. I would guess it's a rebuilt one, regardless, it's OEM style and the part you need.

You are supposed to mount the autozone one backwards but the oil fill hits the IAC then and won't install....bunch of crap really. They stock a lot of parts that don't work for our car, like the water pump gasket.

yeah autozone,this is autozone.i had a 86 gt needed a fuel pump.i go to autozone and they try to sell me a mechanical fuel pump and swear that its what i need,i said its an electric fuel pump in the tank how am i supposed to use this?they say well this is what our computer says you need,i say well your computer is wrong.the guy argued with me for 20 minutes.i ended up going to napa.then i needed to change the oil on my 98,so i go into autozone for oil and filter,i was in a hurry so i asked the guy which filter,he gives me a number i pick it up take it get everything done and i go to put the filter on,its a filter for a v6.so thats my experience with autozone,so now its napa for me.no more rebuilt crap like advance,autozone pepboys sells.i might pay more but at least i know the part is right when i buy it.

NAPA = No Auto Parts Available. J/K.

I try to steer away from all of those chains when it comes to buying specific parts. I try to get everything online now ..... or at a couple local places (The Hotrod Barn or Xtreme Machines). Advanced, AZ, NAPA, O'Reilly's .... it's all a bunch of crap in my book. I even got my Autolite sparkplugs from Wal-Mart to keep from going there, lol. I just use those stores for like universal parts or cleaning supplies.
