OK, so since everyone and thier brother has started a gear thread, why not me! :p

OK, but in all seriousness, here's my question:
I purchased a set of 3.73's today for my car (in sig) and I had someone tell me this afternoon that it wouldnt make a big difference in my acceleration over stock! I think thats :bs: cause I think my car has 2.73's now...

ok the question(s)

(1) What exactly is the stock gear ratio for a 97 GT vert 5-speed?????

(2) Assuming I have 2.73 now, would'nt 3.73's HAVE to make a pretty substantial difference in acceleration?????

I chose 3.73 cause I want acceleration and also I drive a few long freeway trips once in awhile. otherwise I would have 4.10-ed it!

use the search it's very helpful

I'm aware of that! I been searching herem and googling my tail off, and I can't fins stock specs for my car anywhere, letting me know what it would be stock.

that's why I asked.

The opinion of the "difference" was just an afterthought! I've already bought my gears, I'm just curious what it comes with stock, I know i'll find out when I take them out, i can count the gears, or it'll probly be stamped on the pinion.

2.73's in my 98 GT

ok, cool 2.73 seems to be what it is likely to be, which means I am happy now, going from 2.73, to 3.73 has to make a diff. being a whole ratio and all change!!!! can't wait to do the install, probly next weekend.

thanks for the info!

look at the sticker on the door jam, if it has an M on the axle code it's 2.73. if that is gone, jack up the car and look at the pumpkin, it has a tag on one of the bolts that tells you the ratio, it will say 2L 73 or whatever the ratio is.

BTW i drive 80 miles all highway every day for work with 4.1's no problems.
