My friend has an '86 gt for off road use only and wants to eliminate everything possible under the hood as far as emmissions and such. What all can be eliminated without disrupting things? Can we take out the charcoal cannisters and associated vacume lines, egr, thermactor air diverter and bypass solenoids, etc. ? Thanks!

Easiest things without messing up ECU or giving many idle problems:
-Cut out the cats
-Bypass/remove the smog pump/thermac.
-Bypass/remove A/C

Bypassing the EGR may make some ECU issues pop up. You can do it though.

Probably can remove the charcoal cannister. You can remove the PCV system by plugging the holes up and venting (if going to see track time, you'll need a catch can).

I'm sure others will chime in with some ideas as well.

thanks. the cats, smog pump, and ac are already gone. The thermactor bypass and diverter solenoids are still there with all there vacume fittings though. He wants to eliminate as many of theos vacume lines as possible.

I wouldn't take out the charcoal canister... that vents pressure from your fuel system... wouldn't want that to explode...

but yeah, rip out the smog, a/c, no cats, delete the rear seats, move tha battery to tha back, manual steering rack, eletric fan, aluminum heads, fiberglass hood/hatch/doors, lightweight glass, etc...
