I currently have a ported Explorer intake on the car. The upper was ported for a 70mm TB (I'm running a 65mm), and the lower's been ported to a Fel-Pro 1250.

Now a friend of mine brought this up to me the other day...

Seeing as how Explorers are made for low-end grunt, do you think this would be a bottleneck in my set-up, eventhough it's ported the way it is? Would switching to a GT-40 or Cobra upper (if I can just find an upper lol) be beneficial?

Just something that's been on my mind and thought I'd ask..

Thanks again for any help, fellas.

I am actully a fan of cobra intakes for the price. you can find them used for like 225-250. with a tad bit of porting (even home porting), they are worth the money.

I run a midly ported Explorer intake with a Cobra upper.

I dont think it was holding my power output back.

Grover - that's what I'm kinda getting at - running the Explorer lower with either a GT 40 or Cobra upper.

As it is now, it's an upper and lower Explorer set up.

My my explorer intake(inlet ported to 80mm, not by me though, very ported lower, by me) my torque reaches it's peak around 4000-4500 RPM. I love the low end. Of course other things like my cam help too. I have stock ported heads, which were also ported by me.

The Explorer is not the *astard child, it's every bit as good as the Cobra or GT40.
