What are the CONS of an electric water pump?

you hit it right on the head. there is always flow from the passanger head to the heater core and back to the pump.
 
No one has had any problems?

I'm pretty surprised that no one has had any problems with these electric pumps. I was asking about them a couple years ago, but everyone told me that No electric pump will do what the stock mechanical pump does as efficiently. They were saying that the electric will always flow the same rate, where as the stock pump increases flow as the RPM's increase thus not able to cool as well. So I was kinda scared away from electric water pumps. Its always been in the back of my mind though. Now to see people who have been running the electrics with no problems for almost 2 years and over 30K miles, I feel much more confident in going with a Meziere!

So they cool fine in stop and go traffic with 100*+ days?
I suppose if I were to experience the car getting hotter in certain driving conditions I could always wire up a manual switch for the fan again, huh.

Anyone know-> In F-bodies, if you're accelerating at WOT...the radio gets louder and all the lights get brighter...however I don't notice this in Mustangs. But assuming that it does, and you have an electric water pump, will it get some extra juice and flow faster from the electrical spike that occurs at WOT?

These are exactly my thoughts! Since I live in Germany, sometimes I do constant 130-140mph over hours (with still a bit top-end left to chase some domestic (for me) iron :banana: ). And with some improvements (engine oil cooler, oil-temp-gauge, springs, shocks), the Mustang does that very well, even with underdrive pulleys - no overheating problems occur.
But when in such a situation the water pump fails, the engine would overheat in seconds :notnice:.
But I think no one of you can report from such high-RMP-over-time applications? Maybe some open-track or round-course racers?

No, never heard of something like that in the F-Bodies. Don't they know a thing called voltage regulator (normally mounted inside the alternator)? Vehicles in 1930's had that...

Both of mine did that, along with all of my friends' F-bodies. It was actually kinda cool that the radio would get louder cause at WOT you can't hear much :D, but the exterior lights and interior lights all glowed brighter as you accelerated. It was very noticeable, but I don't seem to notice that in any of my Mustangs...

I know many cars have the option for speed sensitive volume......but not interior lights....that's just odd! :notnice:
 
I had quite a few people scare me away from an eletric water pump. I was dead set on it for a while, though. I didn't see that much of a problem with it being that I'm not on the road for extended periods of time and I can easily stick the stock water pump in the trunk with the needed tools to replace it when the failure occurs. It didnt seem like a big deal to me but, I've even had places refuse to do the install on them because of how "unreliable" they are. I guess with some sort of light hooked up to it so I know when it fails, that would be helpful and also, having the fan on too, I spose.

So, what I'm more concerned about is, are the gains realistic, because even I was rather skeptical about it.

If they are realisitic, looks like I might buy it anyways.

Yeah the gains are worth it in my opinion. I'm about to swap out the power steering for a FR manual rack, and now it looks like I'll be trading out the stock WP for an electric as well... Anyone want to add their .02 for electric pumps on a roots-blown motor? Able to keep up with the extra heat produced?
