What are these connectors

I'm doing a 2.3 a4 LD to a 5.0 t5 swap, and I'm having issues getting the engine to start. I can crank it from the starter solenoid, but it won't start from the transmission. And I already have the clutch safety switch underneath the dash bypassed, so I'm wondering which one of these connectors is the neutral safety switch. I'm assuming one is a neutral safety switch and the other is a reverse light but I cannot figure out which is which.

The black one is for the VSS at the speedo connection to the transmission. There is a manual transmission harness that plugs into the gray one that will go to the reverse light switch (will be a black round plug on the harness) on the driver side of the T5 and it will have a loop on the other two wires as a T5 does not have a neutral safety switch like an AOD. There will be another wiring harness that you can pull out of a stick car that will go to the NGS (neutral gear switch) switch on top of the T5. This is not necessary but you may get a slight hanging of the idle without it.

So with all of that I believe you will need to jump the White/Pink and Red/Lt Blue wires at the gray connector which will allow the starter circuit to complete with your clutch safety switch bypassed. Please research this a little more as it has literally been years since I have messed with this.

What do you mean there may be a slight hanging at idle without having the NGS not connected? Would having it not connected also bypass the clutch switch so you could start the car without the clutch being pressed in?

It has nothing to do with the start circuit. It is simply feedback to the ECU that the car is in neutral so it holds the RPM's up anticipating a shift.

Ah I see, I am currently trying to track down why my clutch switch isn't working (car will start without clutch in)
If you do this I recommend you make a habit of ALWAYS stepping on the clutch when starting your car even if you are ABSOLUTELY SURE you are in Neutral.. Hate to play " dad " here but I have seen bad things happen when people thought cars were in neutral and they were not......
Made this a habit on my Harley when I watched another persons bike take off and climb a fence then fall back over, it never did stop running......

I always make sure it’s in neutral! I am not taking risks with my car!! Haha. I would like to get the clutch switch working as an extra precaution, when I had bought the car the connectors going to the switch had been unplugged, I have since plugged them in but it has made no difference. I can still start the car without the clutch in, I also tried "resetting" the plunger. Haven't dived too deep into it as I'm not currently driving the car for the winter
