Hey all,

I am going to be buying a 1997 mercury cheep. I am planing on taking the engine out to take the heads and intake.

I was wondering if there was anything else that I could utilize before I junk the car? It does have disk brakes all around, Is it possibe to covert to my 1993 fox?

Thanks for the help Drew

I'm guessing its a Mountaineer. I don't think the brakes will work but am not certain. The rear end is a leaf spring setup so it won't work with your car. But as far as taking the rear calipers and stuff I'm not sure

I beleove the rear brakes could be adapted, but not sure. It would be a huge pita though.

Just stick to the engine stuff.

Yes it is a Mountaineer

I just didn't know if i could take the brakes or not. That would be the only thing that I could think that I would want.

If it's a 1996 or early 1997 model Mountaineer, then you'll get the same GT-40 heads as found on the 93-95 Cobra. Most 1997 (engine build date after November-December of 1996) have the modified GT-40P heads (check casting to see which ones you've got) The "P" heads have smaller 1.46" exhaust valves verses the 1.54" found on the GT-40.

I would take the 31 spline 8.8 carrier too.

I don't think the pre '05 4.6L 3V 300hp Mountaineer's got the 31-spline rear end.

Still a decent 8.8" in there though. Might have a set of 3.55-3.73-4.10 gears in it too.
