What Causes A Car To "Hop" Around When Cruising?

Got this weird thing that my car likes to hop/skip around when cruising. Its fine when your not giving it gas but when you give it some gas it seems to jerk. Kinda hard to explain, but it feels like the rear end is sloppy or something. Anyonw know what im talking about?

I got to get my gear in, ordered trac lok rebuild, it should help with some of the mess I believe.

kind of a general discrip,but if its jerking maybe check ur u-joints for wear or if its wheel hop ur talkin about then look into some upper and lower control arms.

sounds like wheel hop to me. is it when you spin your tires?

Not exactly the back of the car, but maybe your motor mounts are toast?

Abuse. Plain and simple. The LX and GT hatchbacks have more of a problem than the coupes. Over time the rear suspension wears out from beatings. My hatch does it but my coupe never did.

my car doesnt jerk so much, but while shifting gears i hear a "thump" from the back, i have to shift very very slow if i dont want to hear it, my motor mounts are shot, and i assume the rear suspension is also, i have some enery suspension mounts but i havent gotten around to putting them in yet

Have you checked your drive shaft bolts? Mine came a little loose once and made a thumping noise when shifting.



I have that same "hop" some times. Say, trying to maintain about 5-10 mph in first gear, like in stop and go traffic.

my car did ths also, whenever i would just drift at slower speed it 3rd or 4th gear but, would stop whenever the clutch was disengaged.

i replaced the u-joints and it fixed the problem

My 88 mustang does this but only under hard accereration, I am still on the stock suspension,I did destroy the stock pinion snubber then upgraded to the comp engineering adj snubber with a poly bumper then shortly aftrer destroyed the polly. was planning on going w/ maximum's torque setup soon. please let me know what mods you plan on doing and if they fix the problem Chris

This is the problem I have, so I need to try replacing the U-joints. Thanks man, I will try that.
