blackened recently put a astro clutch kit in his car and I know for a fact it chatters. Not saying yours does I was just wondering if you got yours from the same place because it seems like it chatters more then it should...

Yes I bought it from tony @ astro. No chatter or any issues. Sounds like his was installed wrong or maybe the flywheel needs to be surfaced or something. I've had a motorsport HD, king cobra, promotion HD/mcleod and now a KC/mcleod and none of them ever chattered.

I have the same exact setup from the same guy. It does chatter a little when it's hot, but I wouldn't say it's abnormal at all. It's definitely the worst in reverse. I've gotten used to driving it so that it BARELY chatters though. It's definitely installed right, and the flywheel was resurfaced. I'm not worried about it, as long as it doesn't slip. The pedal is extremely light. I don't have enough power or track time to really test it yet, but I'm sure it will be fine, and I'm happy with it so far.

Like I said, I have heard of this before

I will keep an eye out for this now that my interest has been peaked.

Best two high powered clutches ive owned.
Mcleod dual friction (good around 550rwhp)..After than the center force DFX setup(btw-it needs ZERO break in drop in and go hit the track)...Its held 621+rwhp and 550rwtq without batting a eye.
Plus its as easy to drive as a KC clutch

white99gt - I take your word over some others, because you seem very unbias

How was the clutch pedal of that particular McLeod Dual Friction clutch, and the on/offness compared to the Centerforce you used?

I have no problem driving a Centerforce in daily driver. Even, every now and then the King Cobra would get annoying in stop and go traffic and I am not a small guy.

the mcleod felt like a heavier King cobra.

My centerforce was like driving a 4cyl clutch car.It could be touchy at times when it was cold. Some mornings when trying to be quiet and backing out of my garage i would get a little chatter, but that is the only time i ever had any.

A good friend felt my dfx setup, and went and bought one the next day(he had a spec stage 3 in his).

If anything else its worth it because it needs no break in time, compaired to normal clutches..
When my kc goes out, even though i dont have the kinda of power that requires a dfx .THe dfx will be my next clutch.

I love Centerforce clutches. I recommend them all the time for most of the 5.0 guys on here and that I know.

I was told by center fore that I should get a dual friction and cut the weights off to prevent the chance of them sticking but when I asked the guy if withe the power i am making (450) that I could runn drag radials and not slicks because the slicks would probally smoke the clutch but I see you guys running the king cobra plate with a mcload disc but what disc and what is that clutch ratted for. The only clutch that I know that will take the power is the ram powergrip hd and the centerforce dfx. So I would like to get more info on the kc clutch.

A regular king cobra clutch will not hold near the power some of the others mentioned in this thread.

Got my mcleod setup from walt at pro motion years ago.The above pic IS the clutch i was running(dfx)

Cut the weights off? Thats funny ,on my DFX i had no issues with wieghts sticking even at 7200rpm shift points.

WIth what i know now,the dfx is almost the perfect clutch. No break in needed, cheap compaired to a twin disk, very streetable, and can hold 600+ with out breaking a sweat.

Drop a regular clutch in and then go beat on it,it MAY hold but you will lose around 30~40% of its holding because of not being broken in right.

Ya I was thinking of running the dfx or the ram hd. I like the dfx because of the liht pedal pressure. And yes the guy from the teach at centerforce said to cut the weights off and the pedal pressure would be a little heavier that before but almost like stock. nd i was getting the imply that the weights were more of an gimic that they really helped. But I will find out. Now I can runn a stock flywheel resurfaced correct?

I have never had luck with the Centerforce kits but I am liking that DFX setup though. It looks similar to the Hays Metallic kits I run. ( Hey White ) have you ever run one with an alum. flywheel.

That DFX does seem to be a nice setup. I wish I knew about it when I bought my clutch. I might give that a shot if mine doesn't last with my new combo.

I'm not sure exactly what the McLeod disc is. I got mine from Tony at Astro Performance. This is the setup that I'm running. It says it's good for 500hp/400ft lbs. Whether that's at the flywheel or rear wheels I don't know.

Here's a setup for 600hp/500ft lbs from them. It doesn't say what they use for parts but for some reason it says it's cheaper.

Yea originally had a alum flywheel till ,i had the ring gear come off of it(new ford 5.4 cobra alum flywheel)..Then i went back to my trusty billet steel..

For a street car the billet steel is a better choice.I seen the difference in the way the car drove.Power was the same but it just drove better with the steel flywheel.

Looks like the 600hp clutch looks like a DFX disk but possibly with a cheaper pp.
