Hey guys. I'm going to be doing a SN95 5 lug conversion really soon on my car, and I have all the parts in my basement. The calipers are all rusty, so I'm going to paint them. I tried spraying them red, did 2 coats with Rustoleum industrial spray paint, but I don't like it much. It looks orangey to me, and I think it'd be overkill on a red car. I was thinking of black instead, because it will look clean and it won't get dirty from brake dust, and then I was thinking silver. I have this really nice metallic silver that I used on my alternator and intake that came out great. I want to see some pics of brake calaipers painted, preferably on cars with red bodies and silver rims, but anything'll do. Also, I'll be mounting them on slotted/cross drilled rotors, so I know they'll get some attention. Show me those calipers!

Just opinion - but black is the only color to go with on calipers for me. However, depending on car use, regular or even hi temp paint may not hold up. Beyond that, the brake pad dust really does a number on paints. Think how many wheels you've seen stained over time because of dust. I used the special caliper paints on mine. The Eastwood Company sells it (among others). It's a two part paint - sort of an epoxy. If you get the calipers clean, the stuff is tough as nails. The dust just wipes off of mine whenever I wash the car. If you want to see pics of mine, email me ([email protected]) and I'll snap a few and email them to you. BTW, the only time a caliper should be red is if it has the letters P-O-R-S-C-H-E cast into it. :)

How about spraying them silver with some red to highlite things

Michael, arent some Brembos red too? (or maybe the Porsche's brakes are Brembos - i think they were used as OEM at some point. ive been out of the loop for too long).

i agree - i down play them when painting. but i do it for aesthetics (many paints dont hold up well at all). i have heard good things about the two stage paints (one of the mags wrote one of them up not long ago, IIRC).

someone has to find the pic that was in here awhile ago - the rotor, spindle and everything else was painted (not by choice - no masking done from the horrible look of it).

my next ones will be painted camouflage. people will ask, hey where are your brakes. :D

at advance auto they have a caliper paint kit for like $15. they have red, black, silver and yellow (i think). the red looks nice and will match my car, but i think that im going silver just to have them look nice.

PS.....hot damn those bear ones look sweet!!!

I sprayed them silver. I wire wheeled them before I started, and put on two coats of the industrial Rustoleum paint in red, then went over it with the Rustoleum heavy duty metallic silver. The industrial paint is tough stuff, I've painted alot of stuff with it and it doesn't give an inch. The silver on top isn't as heavy duty though, so I'll be applying a bunch of coats to it and hoping for the best. It's the same stuff I used on my intake, which has held up fine, and my 3G alt which hasn't gone in yet but looks killer. If this doesn't work, then I'll just remove the calipers in the future and wire wheel them till they shine.
