I would like opinions on which crate motor to put in my 5.0 - it has alot of miles on it and is my daily driver, and it will continue to be my daily driver, should i replace it w/ the stock 302, or put in the 315 horse 302 that i saw on Ford Racings web site - it looks good - i was thinking a 331 but, i wanna crate not to builld it myself, just a straight swap w/ my motor - thanks guys - give my your opinions on the best motor to swap w/ for the MONEY and for the POWER at the same - i dont wanna go much bigger than 302 -(347, or 351 not an option) thanks later

get the 302 with the aluminum heads, the one rated at 340-345? I dont know, the one with the most ponies, its not that much more once you are spending that kind of money.

go for the learning experience and do a rebuild. Send the block to a machine shop, bore it 30 over, get new pistons, rings, bearings, and gaskets and your set. While its even there, you can even have the shop race prep your crank and rods.

Machine shop = $$$

124k miles is nothing for a 5.0. Do a few tests and see what kind of compression you get.

Usually a tired engine will have the usual deal, leaks from a lot of seals, gaskets, feels very down on power and not the pep it used to have, uses/burns oil, smokes, starts slowly, revvs slow, and a banging sound like piston slap or a tapping or clicking noise like sticking lifters or valves- etc. If you ever manage to hit all the above, congratulations - you should have pulled that thing a long time ago.

It depends how much you wanna spend, and what your car is set up for.You can buy a 306 from CHP with 460HP for 5299!! But is your tranny strong enough? Rear end? Do you have sub frame connectors??....If your looking for lower HP #'s and less money Central Coast Mustang has crate motors for 2 or 3 grand!!Theres a 302 with 340HP for 2395!!Or a 302 with 300hp for 1895..How much do you wanna spend?

i had no idea that central coast had engines that cheap - i will most def order a 300 horse motor for 18** bucks, yeaaaasssss i love you Willys1 - you are the man behind the music!!!!!! I now have a realistic goal of $$$$$$ Yea my motor only has like 110K on it, but its totally tired, everytime i run it a lil hard, i get probs, something new, like alternator, water pump, it just feels fast down low, like gave me good 1/8 mile and 60' times, but once im past 1/8 mile, its like im stuck at 87 mph its gay - not tryna fly, but id like to know i can beat an SRT4 I hate that a NEON GRANDMA CAR can blow mine out of the water -and my cars ****in sweet lookin now, im not gonna sell it and buy another one or nething, i love it too much - new motor time, I love you WILLYS1!!!!!!!!!!

Do you realize the 347 is off the 302 block? Why would you choose the 331 over the 347? Do you have any reason for it? Why would you not want an extra 16 cubes in your engine?

There has been some speculation on the durability of a 347 vs the 331.

the issue surronding the 347 vs the 331 as was explaned to me by the dss guys is that 347 will almost always start to use oil 10000 miles in. they dont say burn oil in these cases just use oil. nature of the beast i guess. I would buy a 331 crate motor personally think that will be my next purchase for my F-150 extended cab 4x4 flairside. then a 408 for my 86 stang. my 351 just isn't fast enough anymore. addicted to hp

Isnt the engine with the 300hp for $18xx the same as stock? Isnt a Mustang 225 hp from the factory with the accesories on the engine?

It has GT-40P heads and runs the stock .444 lift cam, you can upgrade it while ordering.
But a fresh motors is better than a tired one, you could order it with a different cam and still put out some good power.

In magazine ads I think they list it at 300.

I would get the one for 18 and change, make sure you order it with forged pistons!! Check out the add in 5.0 magizine..You could order any one of the alphabet cams. They have good deals on strokers also..But again,I would get the cheapo with forged pistons so you could add boost down the road
