What things will need to be address when buying parts to have a 408 stroker put together when using a '69 9.48 deck height block? Does this impact the intake manifold. I assume a stroker kit needs to be different to accomodate the shorter height? Right wrong? other things?

Thanks.

You basically just need to brand shop and compare overall compression heights. Some kits will vary a few thousandths. You might just end up with a kit that is .02 out of the hole. Check with your machinist to see what will be an acceptable range.

But for example, I know the short rod 347 kits are becoming popular because of the internet myth that the long rod version burns oil. You can thank the guys that can't properly assemble a shortblock for that. So CHP offers a 5.315" rod version of the 347. Scat's version uses a 5.325" rod. They use the same piston. The CHP version comes out to 8.190" deck height. The Scat version comes out to 8.200" deck height.

I don't think you're going to be able to find a specific kit for a .002 shorter deck though. If you really wanted to spend some cash, you could always get a custom piston.

9.2" is a Cleveland. 9.5" is a Windsor. In reality, the '69-'70 351W was 9.48" deck height. The '71-up was a 9.503". Just like our 8.2" deck 5.0s are 8.203".
