what do you guys think of this idea

alright, so i'm planning out how i want my car to look and i'm trying to think of custom ideas to do to make it stand out, but still look factory.

so far i've got

cobra front bumper, with pony logo and 5.0 emblems on side [not making it a fobra]
2000 R hood
SVO side skirts with custom side exit pipes with spintechs.
96-98 tails with sequentials.
smoked headlights with smoked foglights.
s281 wing

now heres where the big idea comes in, start reading here if your lazy

blend the trunklid, so its solid, no license plate. no lines inbetween tail lights. then in the center put something like the 05-up have, and the early stangs, the gas lid door. but make it flip up and have the key hole for the trunk there.

then cut into the bumper where mustang gt is, fill that in, so it doesn't say it anymore, and then mold a license plate bracket into the rear bumper like the newer mustangs have.


i know this seems like alot of work, but lets not think about the work and just the finished product.

i'm going with a classic paint job that will tie in with the theme of the car, nothing obnoxious.

i'll try to photoshop something up while everyones reading.

heres a photoshop, used dalamars car from sn95 forums, since he has no tail pipes, 96-98 tails and s281 wing.

i'll be using a darker color.

Dude, totally go for that. Just do it right. Also ditch the gas cap idea. Just leave it smoove or move the ford oval to the middle.

I've seen a mustang with the area between the tail lights all smoothed out and it looked like total crap. I mean it was hideous looking. I like what yeahloh95 did where he smoothed in the piece where the license plate is and that looks good, but the entire smooth area between the light and moving the license plate down doesn't look good at all IMO. You'd HAVE to put the fake gas cap there like the newer cars in order to break up that big flat area for it to look even half way decent.

You'd HAVE to put the fake gas cap there like the newer cars in order to break up that big flat area for it to look even half way decent.

Some racing stripes might help if he's into that. I always liked white with grey stripes. I'm more curious as to how you would modify a urethane bumper to fit a license plate

It needs more to make it look factory. The 05 stangs make that rear trunk area look natural, where as your photoshop looks like u simply are pasting on crap from another car. I think you might have a good idea, you just need to iron out the small details to truly make it look factory. It doesnt flow very well IMO as it sits right now.

haha thats cause i was posting stuff from another car i'm not the best at photoshop at making things look clean.

yeah right now its just a rough idea. once i got into the project i would definitely have a better sketch of how things are going to pan out. right now its just a few ideas thrown at a car.

yep, that was one thing i was trying to think of what i could do. i could probably mold up something so its just a straight line, instead of the indent where the license plate is.

my idea included racing stripes, i just didnt want to go too into detail on what it is going to be as a finished product, cause i know exactly how i want it to be, just need the money to go for my idea. i haven't seen anything like my idea, and people have more money then me, so i want my idea to still be unique when i finally have it saved up for.

and if i recall, there are a few companys that make an aftermarket rear bumper thats made of fiberglass instead of urethane, that are the same appearance as the OEM cover.

i've done alot of fiberglass work in school just nothing like this, only repairs that i can remember. and i'm actually pretty decent with it now. so i think fabbing up something shouldn't be too hard, just takes some time and patience.

yeah i don't think it would look right without the gas cap there, it would be too empty. first thing i did for photoshopping it was smudge over the license plate part, and looked at it just as that with the license plate on the bumper, and it looked pretty plain.

I think this is a pretty cool idea but here's my 2 cents on what I think needs to be changed on it....There has to be a line that goes above the taillights (just like the new and 69/70 stangs) There should either be some type of trim piece that goes on that line or that whole section between the taillights needs to be recesed in a little bit. Then you would still have to have the fake fuel cover/keylock. Then I would think over the idea of putting a honeycomb type of grill in the back that covers that whole center section......

but the honeycomb would just be an additional piece, it'd have to go with the direction your taking the look of your car, if you didnt use it, it'd look fine without it too...

Similar to my thoughts--you need something to fill that area. Stripes might do it, and do away with the need for the horizontal line across the top of the taillights. Otherwise, either the honeycome, recessed in, or a contrasting color to fill in the area and create the line.

I say GO FOR IT!!! I like, it's definitely unique, and subtle. Most people will have to look 2-3 times to figure out what's different. Take your time and do it right, but I think you've got a great concept going!

You'll have a hard time molding the factory bumper like that. The urethane it is made up of does not allow much to be bonded to it. That would be more like a fiberglass one.
