What engines/tranny will fit an '86 Tempo?

I have an '86 Tempo (2.3 HSC TBI/CFI) that is a really solid car, but it has no get up and go. I have heard of people dropping in a V-6 as well as the Taurus SHO setup. I'm not looking for a racecar just some more umph so I can get out in traffic or get out of the way. Also I'm not looking to spend an enormous amount of money either. I've toyed w/ the idea of a turbo but reckon that the plumbing would be a nightmare.One more thing the car has to stay an automatic as there are members of my family that cannot(will not?!) drive stick.

If all you want is a little more umph, ya know NOS makes a nitrous kit that will fit just about anything. It would be alot easier and cheaper than a transplant. Plus I don't think you have a whole lot of options with the mighty Tempo. But then again you can fit any motor in any car if you are willing to put enough effort in it. It can be done. Just is it worth it?

The Tempo had an available V-6 in later (early 90's) models. It wasn't exactly a powerhouse, but it was more peppy than the four-banger. Maybe see if you can hunt down one of those and plop it in there?
