I had my timing set at 10 degrees, i just advanced it to 14, and maybe its just me but it feels a bit faster. It feels much more responsive. I was just wondering what does bumping the timing do, and how does it make more HP?

That is not always true. On lower compression (stock) engines 12* to 14* is right where you want to be for best response. What this does send voltage to your spark plugs earlier in the compression stroke. As you mod your engine and add compression you'll find that your timing is best set more towards 10* or 8*, especially with power adders.

Yeh, I'd say 12* is just right. Some guys like to shoot for 15*, but I'm sure how long their engines will last... I ran 12 on my last motor and it lasted for over 200,000 miles and still looked good when it was taken apart! Except for the bushings and rings of course...

just make sure you run a higher octane gas. Most of the time when you bump your timming you need to run 91 or 93 Octane or you will have detonation
