And do all o/r pipes do it? I drove a GT with an X once (not sure what kind, not sure if the catback was stock.. prolly not) at WOT it sounded killer but it made this really loud and annoying sucking/scratching... hard to explain type of sound... is that the rasp that everyone talks about? Do o/r H pipes do that too?

Yes that is the rasp. My O/R pipe does it at real low rpm when driving. In first gear and at idle it doesn't do it.

Off road H's will w/ straight through mufflers, and X pipes will with chambered mufflers. that is what everyone recommends the rule of thumb to run the exact opposite combo of the above.

Rasp goes "racka racka racka racka" usually it's loud obvious, and nasty sounding.

I personally only get some metallic rasp in the mid RPM, but only when I mash the gas under torque. Revving and slowly accelerating gives off zero rasp. WOT sounds orgasmic. Off idle acceleration in traffic gives a deep echo'ed burble. Personally I like the bit of rasp in there, gives it an extra p!ssed off sound. But I don't have a lot of rasp at all, my UPR only gives a touch of it at mid RPM under torque which sounds p!ssed off. Everytime I accelerate in traffic, and here my exhaust echo and bounce off cars next to me, I get an eargasm. It seriously sounds f#cking intemidating as hell.

UPR/VRS style X-pipes mated with flows sounds like pure intemidation, no kidding.

On an unrelated note, I heard X-pipes give more dirty rumble at low RPM then H-pipes. The guy didn't explain the logistics behind it, just what I heard from a fellow SVT owner who has owned 3 Cobras, with many different exhaust setups.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Anyone heard a Magnaflow-X w/cats mated with the Bassani cat-back? I have done searches and come up with nothing. If no one else has this combo, what's the best way to get a clean sound clip so I can post it?

Sure, Go to www.mustangexhaust.com and go to the 4.6L section. There are TON of exhaust sound clips, and you will find what you are looking for.

As for how to make a good sound clip, don't record too close to the exhaust pipes, or it could overwhelm the MIC and sound like mud. Also make sure you have a quality digicam that can pick up all the different types of sounds our exhausts emit.

Alight, im all clear on that one now. I actually love the raspy sound OUTSIDE the car, it does sound pretty intimidating. Damn, now i really cant decide between a UPR X and a Mac H (I have flows)... for the guy with the UPR, is there any rasp or odd rattling/clanking etc. once your at crusing speeds or on the highway? I could prolly deal with it if it's not too often. Does it drone bad?

I guess i'm that guy. No odd rattling or clanking sounds at all. Like I said, just a little metallic rasp....actually a better way to describe it would be bark. It sounds like a loud commanding bark. Feirce. It is a deep echo'ed sound with a metallic bark to it that sounds intemidating. Depends on what RPM your at on the highway. I'm at 2550rpm at 70mph cause of my 4.10's, and when I mash the gas in 5th I get a loud deep bark from the exhaust that sounds mean.

H-pipe + Flows = More classic mustang sound, poppy but deep and echo'ey.

UPR Xpipe + Flows = Deep and Echo'ey mustang sound with a p!ssed off bark to it.

BTW, your exhaust sounds MUCH-MUCH-MUCH different outside of the car than inside. I've had technicians drive my car and I stood outside to watch, and it sounded in-f#cking-credible. As he turned onto the 4 lane road, and slowly accelerated up to speed, the exhaust emited a loud, deep, p!ssed off, throaty echo'ed flowmaster "evil" sounding rumble that permiated off every building around. Sounded very 3 Dimensional and dominating.

Then again, I have a 32V so it wont sound exactly the same for you GT's.

I love my o/r Xpipe and Flowmaster 40's!!! Sounds soo intimidating and pissed off! I love it cause it has that classic muscle car sound to it and it loud as hell!! Being inside the car does no justice to the sound. I forgot how loud it really was till i let my bro drive my car last weekend and he kept reving it in the driveway It was unbelieveable, sooo loud!! I LOVE IT!!

Well... all I know is that I get compliments on my Dr. Gas and Flowmaster cat-back everyday. Young people, old people, GIRLS... I don't know if it's just really loud or if it really sounds THAT good, but it sure is a crowd pleaser. Sounds about right from the driver's seat too
