BIGGER is BETTER on a forced induction car if you are looking for big peak HP numbers. And of course everyone is, whether we want to admit it or not

Last time I talked to ProCharger regarding exhaust size requirements for the supercharger, they said that 2.5" system would be sufficient for anything under 700hp. The was for the 427 big block in my Chevelle though, might be different for other cars.

The thought that bigger is better only applies when there's power to necessitate it.

3" is too big unless you are making about 650hp-700hp as KrisHorton said-


Yeah, peak power numbers are nice.......if you are building a highway roll assasin/dyno queen....

but if thats what you like- more power to you- after all, you are only building your car to please one person- and thats you- so everything I say- is just my personal opinion and how I choose to build my cars-

Its all about the total power under the curve/ usable power- persoanlly peak power numbers do nothing for me- Im more interested in 1/4 mile times-

which means no 3" until you hit 650-700hp-


My last car was making 447rwhp and I dynoed it with the 2.5" and the 3"-

after looking at both of the curves, my car made more power overall with the 2.5" even though peak numbers were down by about 7rwhp-

My torque curve was way flatter, and the car felt much stronger overall with the 2.5" -

I am now in the process of building my 5th car that is supercharged with a built motor BTW- and I have learned a few things-

I only use Aeromotive fuel systems
I only use MSD ignition
I only use 2.5" exhaust below 650-700hp

(I should also say I only use Magnaflow exhaust- but I work for them, so you might say I am slightly biased...lol)

Thats just me though-

Well your far more experienced than I am so I'll probably stick with 2.5. Definitely still interested in long tube headers, X-Pipe with the cat-back exhaust. So far I'm leaning towards Bassani.

Just switched out my flows for Bassani... the sound IMO is just right. A really low growl around 1-3 but it doesn't give you a headache when you go higher. I'm really happy w/ the decision, and the tips look the best too...

I just put on the Flowmaster AT axel backs on the wife's 05 GT. It has over 200 miles on them now and I am not sure you could find a better sound. Awesome low roar and you cannot beat the price. Came built in with the 3" rolled chrome tips and they look great too. Great sound, great price ($279 from Jeg's)...I highly recommend.

Anyone heard the Hooker Aerochamber kit. the clip on their website sounds good, but I'm not sure if it is their full setup or just the axlebacks? Has anyone found a online dealer for the Hookers?

I've not heard of hooker myself.

What do you guys think of this combo...JBA long-tube headers, Bassani X-Pipe, Magnapak Exhaust. The other option is the same thing with the Bassani Exhaust instead of the Magnapak. I swear i'm going cross-eyed trying to choose this.

I understand- another thing to do if possible, is wait until the next Mustang show in your local area and go listen to some cars-

Sound clips are nice, but there is nothing like hearing it in person- IMHO

Not to mention everyone here usually suggests the exhaust they have on their car which they like- but just because they like it doesnt mean you will-

Well, I am in love with the JBA axleback system. I think we are going to take it off of the 05 and put it onto the 06, and Hatch wants to get a different system for the 05.

all this superchared 05' talk and no mention of JBA long tube headers. . . I read in an article that they produce some insane power especially on a superchared animal and even more with the no cat h-pipe they offer that matches. http://www.jbaheaders.com/05mustangnew.asp

They sound wicked too there was a set on this guys car a a show last weekend. . . .

I had the JBAs put on when I first got my car and they sounded awesome -- very deep and growly, but just not loud enough. About 3 weeks ago my girlfriend bought me the SLPs and every word I could use to explain them will get blanked out by pretty little stars from Stangnet.

Just like that guy who works for magnaflow that always pushes that stuff (imagine that), it is all personal opinion. But I can't stop listening to my SLPs and they are the loudest exhaust I have ever heard (and I don't work for SLP).

I just recently got back from Iraq myself to find the wife got me a shiny new silver 05 GT. First thing I did was put some SLP loudmouths on it. I highly reccomend them. The wife loves em I love em everybody likes them. Theyre awesome and real easy to put on.

Yeah- however I did own my Mustangs before I worked here, and even though only one was running when I started working here- the one that was running had Magnaflow mufflers on it-

I have owned Mustangs with Borla, Flowmaster, Dynomax, Spintech, and Bassani as well along with other Mustangs with Magnaflow before I started working here-

and when I bought my last car before I started working here- I decided on Magnaflow before I even knew about this job-

So yes I am slightly biased now...(OK Im alot biased..lol) - but I have owned just about every other exhaust system out there- and I was a Mustang enthusiast long before I worked for Magnaflow-

(in fact alot of my posts have nothing to do with exhaust- but Ill be the first to admit Im in sales- and I love to sell things- and I love Mustangs- and I really like Magnaflow- which would explain my bias..lol)

Like I said before though- the only way to know what sound you like is to hear it for yourself- No one on this board can tell you what sounds the best- because there is no right answer-

Two people I know have 05's with JBA long tubes, JBA offroad H pipe and JBA axleback mufflers. In my opinion this combo is loud enough to get me into trouble,since I drive like an idiot at times.

I want the performance without too much noise.

I ordered the JBA Long Tube Headers (Titanium Ceramic Coated) which are at my cousin's in New Jersey. I am thinking of the MAC offroad Pro Chamber for the mid and stock mufflers, until I hear what it sounds like.

I will be going down to Jersey in 2 -3 weeks so I'll know pretty soon how this setup sounds.
