What gas do you use?

I have an 08 GT and I was talking to the sales guy and he said that these cars are tuned for regular gas and that you wouldn't notice a difference between regular and super. I find that somewhat hard to believe, can anyone confirm this?

on a stock car, you will not notice the difference. get a tune for the premium gas in your area, and you WILL notice the difference.

I run regular 87 octane. I have the 89 and 91 bamachips tunes but i have yet to use them. Cann i fill up with 91 octane on the 89 setting?

I run 93 octane with bamachips 93 race tune. Sure you pay a buck more or so per fillup but the performance and reduced consumption is worth it really.

As stated by BigCat, the sales guy is correct. Unless your car is tuned to increase timing to take advantage of the higher octane fuel, you'll not see any performance advantage to running it. Stick with the 87-octane until you're able to afford a tune to run the premium. Until then, you'll just be wasting your money!

I run 87 in both of the mustangs as well, even at the track...didn't make a difference in the green car except in the summer when it's hot and a/c is on it'll detonate if i'm on it hard....but that's rare.

Here's a noob question..

If I were to get a CAI with a tune, does that tune also include for a higher octane gas, say I wanted for 93. Or is the octane tune a whole seperate shindig from a CAI w/tune.

I've seen that you can get cold air intake's with or without the factory tune, of course with tuning it's more money.

My question is, if I get a CAI with the tune, does that tune ALSO include octane. Pretty much what does a tune consist of?

have a 91 tune (highest octane in this area) but gas just went up to $3.30 for this octane so I just changed the tune to 89 $3.10 a gallon; 87 is $3.20 a gallon -- the 89 is subsidized for the 10% ethanol; car still runs fast but it save $3.00 a tank when i fill up.

Most all tunes come with 87, 91 and 93 octane tunes. If you get a custom loaded tuner from someplace like Brenspeed or Bamachips they are much better than a "canned" tune(which is preloaded on the tuner if you buy it off the shelf someplace).
I've run 93 in my car since getting the tuner back in March no matter the price. Here it is running about $2.85-2.90/gal. Which is only $0.20/gal more than 87. I will easily spend the extra $2.40/tank to have more I drive it so often I fill up on avg 3 times per week! I avg just over 21 MPG with mixed driving.

Don't do it! Your car is not setup to run the higher octane tune with the lower octane gas. The tunes alter your fuel and spark to benefit from the higher octane. It is ok to run 89 or 91 octane on a stock tune(waste of money). With a tune, you can run a lower octane, but not vice versa. Before you load your 89 or 91 octane tune, run the car down to where it says 0 miles to empty and perhaps a handfull more miles. Then fill up with the higher grade and load your new matching tune right in the parking lot.

I have a custom SCT 93 octane tune in my car, so that is what I use. But before the tune, I tried 89 and 93 fuel and found there was no performance advantage and that I actually got better milage out of 87 with a stock tune.
