What gear are you crossing the stripe at?

I am confused. one of the main reasons I went with 3.73's over 4.10's is because i didnt want to shift to 4th at the track but now even with the former i am at the rev limiter before I cross the stripe. I have tried to just ride it out but its not practical. Are all of you shifting to 4th with 3.73's and bolt ons or am i doing something wrong? I have been shifting at around 5800 to second and third. should I just shift to 4th at 5800 as well or should i take it to 6000? Sorry for all the q's but i am kinda mad at myself for not getting 4.10's.

Just another reason why 3.73's suck if you don't have big power behind them. :nonono:

A stock GT will use almost all of 3rd gear when hitting the traps, once you swap gears you'll have to use 4th. So you might as well put 4.10's in there and get some use out of the 3-4 shift. :D

Your runnen a 373 in a 4 valve. You may as well run a 327 stock gear. A 430 in a 4 valve motor has got to be the best gear. A cheap way to run at the track? Last time I checked any mod that will enhance your 1/4 mile ET or 60 foot time is not a waste! I'm putten a 430 in my 99 GT after runnen a 410. You got to run whats best for your car and a 373 just so u can race on the highway seems like a waste to me!

o please.. everyone talks like 3.73's are worse than the stock 3.27's. Quarter mile yes you have to go to 4th most of the time.. but to say 3.73's don't significantly help a 4v is ridiculous. 4.30's are for those who just hit the track. Its not a practical gear for every day driving. I don't care how many people have them. Being at 4k on the highway for long periods of time can't be nice to the motor.

my opinion

And I guess me getting 18-21mpg on my daily driven 4.10's is just some figment of my imagination. :bs: If I drove it like a grandma, I could get even more.

Around 2500 rpm or a little less. I'd drive 3 hours to my buddys place in my 99 Gt when i had 410's and i went through a tank of gas. I did the same with my parents explorer during the winter and used the same amount of gas, yet the explorers tank is way bigger! And yes you will need to recalibrate your speedometer. It will be about 10-12 mph off.
