what gears do i have?

I got a used V8 96 GT and my question is how do i know what geras i have. I hear stock is 2.73 - 3.27. I have no complaints on the get up and go on the GT. But would like to maybe upgrade the gears, but i don't want to buy them only to find out i have them already. thanks

If youre on the freeway going 65 m.p.h in 5th gear and youre tach says 1900 r.p.m then you have 3:27's .......jj

That helped a lot! Thanks. All I know is that I go 85mph at 2500rpm in 5th gear.

If you're confident your gears are stock, you can look on the rear diff. cover. Theres a badge on there. Post back what it says I can look up the code for you in my manual.

Stock, I would think the gears should be 2.73.

My 96 had 3.27's but,you should look at the sticker on the
door jam.

yup 3.27 Runs great very peppy. then again i was driving a jeep wrangler 6 cyl, but no pep to it. It's my daily drive and i really can't afford modifying it at this time but i do feel like king of the road when i'm driving my GT.

You got lucky. Mines got 2.73s

Check the sticker in the door jamb under axle. If you have an "E" it is 3.27's...if it is a 5-speed.
