What gears does my car have?

1) Jack up one rear wheel
2) Count number of drive shaft revolutions per one complete turn of the rear wheel
3) Compare to typical ford ratios (3.27, 3.55, 3.73, etc.)

Ahh, the easy solution. Chalk-mark a fixed reference point and a spot on the shaft for ease of counting rotations. :nice:

ok i guess i should put a new post up for this, but i will just ask in this one and see what we get! is anyone funning an air locker on the street? or is posi good enough for just tooling around on the street?

IMO.... (for what it's worth) the factory Traction-Lok is better for a street car. The ARB Air Locker is sweet as he'll, but it's either on or off, ie.... open or locked. The Traction-Lok will behave as locked unless it senses the need to slip and then it does. I'd save the money and run with the Traction-Lok you already have.

lockers and spools are for the strip. lsd are for the street and yes the gears are 3.27's

Ok here's an easy one look for the tag on the diff. Odds are if it is still there stock gears also it will have gear ratio on the tag. If it is missing someone has been in there and good chance they have been changed then refer to any of the many ways of calc the gear ratio. Or just pop the cover off and count teeth, heck proably needs new lube anyways.

The "lsd" (limited slip differential) you speak of is a locker. Posi, Traction-Lok, Detroit Locker, Auburn and more I can't remember are all "lockers". They are all intended for street use.

Spools can be used for limited street driving. It's hard on axles and tires though.

if i was going to go to a spool i would just be better off to weld the spider gears! LIke Tjm said it is either on or off! I think i am just going to replace me gears with like a 3.73 or a 3.90 and leave the traction loc in it! and thenks for the advice about the id tag i thought they still did that!
