What headligth bulbs are you using in your Fox?

I scored a pair of those for $5 from Harbor Freight on clearance. I keep 'em in the trunk of teh Notch for emergency spares. I drove with 'em for a day or two just to see how they'd look and UGH ... same experience here, had to just about drive with my brights on to see anything, at all.

I'm using Silverstar Ultras now, the regular Silverstars would last me about a year before one popped. I also made a headlight relay harness which makes them a bit brighter too.

I just saw a guy in a new Silverado last night with the bluest headlights and fogs I've seen in a while. He probably thinks that people think he has HID's.

like quick91lx said above, they are not blue. your thinkin of the wrong bulb. ill take pics after im done eatin to prove so. i had way better lighting with my hid's then i ever did with any kinda 9004 bulb, the hid's i had were straight up blue (10k) an it was awsome i saw everything an they were only a single beam, just low's. so the whole blue meaning no better vision is wrong. they were ugly but were amazing. they came with the car

no can do on pics. battery is dead. it'll have to wait till tomorrow when i can get a new battery.

Dood ... you're not following what I'm saying. I'm not talking about actual HID systems or bulbs; I'm talking about these overhyped Silverstar bulbs that are a riceboy mod to make it APPEAR that one has spent the money on an actual HID system.

REAL HID will often APPEAR to be blue - yes, I understand, I get that, whooptie-doo, it's blue, whatever, totally worth the hundreds or thousands of dollars for that bragging right. However, any bulb that is COLORED BLUE to make one's headlights APPEAR to be equipped with an HID system is a rice-a-riffic wannabe bulb. Silverstars, I will say once again, are simply Sylvania XtraVision bulbs TINTED BLUE. Go to the store, or if you own a set pull one out, hold it up to the light with, say, a white sheet of paper behind it. IT IS BLUE. I used to sell the damned things at three different auto parts chains - Advanced Auto, Checker, and Autozone - so I am quite familiar with what they look like, and I have also previously owned a set, as well. They were no more impressive than the regular Sylvania XtraVisions which I switched back to on the next vehicle. The XtraVisions, I'm assuming, either run a slightly higher wattage than stock or they use some other kind of gas in the bulbs besides halogen to make them brighter than the OEM-replacement Sylvania bulbs, I dunno ... they are brighter, nothing amazing but definitely noticeable, especially in sealed-beam applications (like on four-eye Foxes) where the stupid plastic yellowing headlight lenses aren't a factor.

Once again, Silverstars ARE brighter than stock, yes, but they are NOT worth the inflated price for what they are - BLUE-TINTED HID-WANNABE BULBS. If you have extra money to blow on overpriced bulbs, or if you're one of those that wants your car to LOOK like it has an actual HID system, then that's your business, I suppose - myself, I'd rather pay half the price on XtraVisions (or equivalent) and use that extra money on something else worthwhile. But WHITE does NOT equal BLUE, nor vise-versa.

How do you get "white" out of BLUE? When you tint a bulb or any transparent/translucent material with a color, you're basically passing light through a FILTER, which does not allow for as much light to pass through as with a CLEAR material. If you had a four-eyed Fox, you could get the same effect by buying some of those clear headlight covers and tinting them blue - only difference is that the tint is on the headlight cover instead of the bulbs, themselves. It's a gimmick people are willing to fork over money to buy into, just so they can LOOK like they have an HID setup - same as these kids that slap giant fart cans and towel-rack wings and stick-on hood scoops and whatnot onto their cars, to make them APPEAR to be faster than they are.

Sylvania XtraVisions, or GE's equivalent (I believe they're branded as "High Output" bulbs, with "HO" on the end of the part number) would be the smarter alternative - same friggin' bulb as a Silverstar, plenty bright and a definite improvement over stock, just minus the stupid blue tint, and at about half the cost of a Silverstar. The Cool Blue bulbs by Sylvania are simply OEM-replacement bulbs with blue tint, and Silverstars are a hybrid cross between Cool Blues and XtraVisions. You could just about buy a PAIR of XtraVisions for what ONE Silverstar costs.

the point of the silverstar ultra's is that they are brighter then stock replacements like your xtravisions or ge replacements. they are NOT blue regardless of what color the actual bulb is. i have them, quick91lx has them an use them. i have had them in several cars an they are not blue. they are white, an brighter then the bulbs you use. your bulbs have this white/yellow tint and yes they may be brighter then stock bulbs but thats about it. i dont see why were arguing. were comparing these bulbs with several people who have an use them on a daily basis like myself. silverstar ultra's may be more expensive yes, but there not gonna break the bank at $45 (what i paid for them)in my book an is about your best option for headlights besides HID's. if you were in jersey i would be more then happy to come take you for a ride in my car so you could see that they are white, not these import cheap-o blue headlights. i do agree with you on that, those import blue bulbs are a cheap way to make it seem like you have HID's an are garbage because you dont see much at all, i know because my girls prelude had them an they sucked. thats what you get for payin $10 for 2 bulbs. best headlight for the money is the ultra an thats my vote. hopefully i will be gettin a new battery tomorrow sometime an will post many pics of the tint of the headlights. i wasnt tryin to get the HID look with the silverstar's, there just the brightest light you can get so i got em.

I have no desire to "look" like I have HID's. To me, Silverstars dont even look like HID's anyway. Its a 1996 teal green Ranger...It's got all the pimpin it needs

I totally understand your point about the bulb having a blue tint...but the light that is emitted from it is very very white. Look at the pics I posted, that is Silverstar 9007's with H3 Fogs in my Ranger. Compared to the Xtravisions, the Silverstars produce a more intense, sharp light that reaches further. Probably not the best trait of them to mention, but friends have commented that they don't want me following them with all my lights on when driving the Ranger. Back when they said that they were not properly aimed but even so, it is a lot of light considering no auxiliary lights have been added. I don't necessarily disagree that they are probably a bit overpriced, but they are no doubt the best you can get short of HID's. I really feel there is no comparison between Silverstars and the Xtravisions. If Xtravisions were truly just as good, Silverstars wouldn't still exist because no one would buy them.

I have blue bulbs that with white light output all over my car, if they put out blue light then they would've went straight back to the store. Hell I even have blue bulbs in my ceiling fan that put out white light. Regular bulbs put out yellow light, the blue coating filters out the yellow rays and produces light white. When they put on too much blue coating then the light is a stupid fake HID blue.

FWIW I have one of those blue 922 bulbs that they sell at autozone in the dome light and it puts out gorgeous bright white light, I get complements about it all the time. Plus I can see when I open the door at night, best $3 I ever spent on a car.

Original 1993 bulbs

the light blue tinting on the silverstars is no where NEAR enough to make the lights blue. silverstars put off a WHITE light. the actual blue ricer lights you're seeing are probably some cheap bs bulb ordered from ricer.com for 10$.

Not to mention that the led's are helping the charging system. A single led of 15000mcd draws like 15mA each and drop like 3V. And there is little wasted energy in the form of heat like the incadescent bulbs, plus the light is so pure reguardless of the color.
