What heat range of plugs to use?

I have tried many heat ranges but the way I figure it, is that I should be using a colder plug with the combo I have. I used a colder plug and it sputters on decel. When I had the hotter plugs, It didn't do it hardly at all. The thing is, is that when I pulled the hotter plugs out they, were basically fried. I Just put in the colder plugs recently and I checked them the other day. They seemed to have a lot of carbon buildup on them, but they werent wet or anything. So, what is a good temp. plug or brand to buy, and what is a good gap to set them at? 53 is what I set mine at. motor specs.

Did Edelbrock have any recommendations with the heads?

Personally I would stick with a stock range. Your combo isn't wild enough to have really extreme demands the way nitrous or boost would. You can open the gap on the plugs a little with the MSD ign. and coil. I think I have run 57 or so without problems, but I would have to look that up (this was in the 302, not the motor I describe in my sig).

Is it possible that something else is causing the problems you describe on decel. Maybe a fuel issue? Too much pressure? I'm just thinking out loud.

Does anyone out there have a guide to temp range selection they could post?

I'm running a slightly colder plug also and it sputters a bit in the low rpm's. Never really contributed it to that but I'll have to try that next time or maybe soon to see if there's a difference.

I would run Autolite 3924's or similar gapped between .45 and .50
