What intake to use with my setup?

Hey all,

I am finally getting to the point of replacing my stock intake and was wondering what everyone here thought as to which one to get with my combo. I really like the looks of theGT40 intake but it is pretty spendy and I know for the money there are better out there. I am planning on keeping most of the rest of the engine as is other then adding a supercharger at a later date so I should not need anything to radicle. Any thoughts would be appreciated. :-)

yea those wou ld be good, not sure how good holley is but i know trick flow is good, i also like the cobra intake, probaly not as good performance but its still pretty good, i would say trick flow, i dont like the look of it tho

Intake

Yeah I checked out the Trick Flow and the numbers look pretty good. I would have to agree it is pretty ugly compared to the gt40 but it's not always looks that count. I guess one thing I should have mentioned is I don't want to lose too much of my low end torque with this swap and my ultimate goal is to build the car to get into the high 12's without a power adder and maintain drivabilty as much as possible.

Lol I know I will need a crap load of practice at the 1\4 mile strip but some day I hope to get there. :D

No boost as of yet but eventually I would like to add around 6-9lb. I dont mind buying another intake when I add the supercharger to gain additional power but for now I want to keep the stang drivable on the freeways and get the crappy stocker off there to let the gt40's breath a little bit. It's a pretty big waste having those heads and a stock intake on there now. I figure I should get a descent power increase by freeing up the intake a bit.

I guess at this point with your feedback I am leaning toward the Trick Flow Track Heat intake. It looks pretty good and has descent flow numbers to boot. This way I should not lose too much low end torque either and still see some descent HP and Tourqe gains in the upper RPM range. Thanks all for the feedback it is much appreciated.

Dude I say go with the TrickFlow they really dont look bad once installed in your car, I must say the GT40 looks really good but is really pricey, but looks isnt what gets you down the track. What ever you get hope you like it.

intake

My car is running really rich right now and I am attributing it to having a stock intake while running 24lb injectors. Do you think a new trick flow intake will help to lean it out some with the extra air flow? I have played around with my fuel pressure and the car only seems to like it around 39-40lb with anything less causing a noticable difference in WOT acceleration. When running at this pressure it is very rich and will give a good puff of black smoke out the exhaust when you get on it. I am really hoping the new intake will make a difference.

The biggest single bottleneck to flow in the engine is the stock lower intake manifold. You hardly ever see anyone that has replaced all the other components that restrict flow (headers, maf, t/b, heads) but still have the stock intake. Replacing it should make a big difference with your mods. Any of the usual suspects will make a big difference for you - Cobra, GT40, Explorer, Edelbrock, Trick Flow -- take your pick. Some flow more at peak - but any of them will support your mods without being a bottleneck.

The 65mm throttle body is more than sufficient for the normally aspirated combo he's putting together - a bigger one will not help. With boost, it might become a bottle neck - but I wouldn't bother with a bigger one if it were mine.

For now, the GT40/Cobra/Explorer (205-210cfm) is the best match for the GT40 heads, and later you can port it's lower to support either TW or AFR heads. The Street Heat flows about 245cfm and your GT40s flow ~200 cfm.

A cheap alternatice for now would be to port the stock lower and switch to a better intake when you get better heads. Check out the link in my signature for more info on porting a stock lower intake.

i was gonna say the same things, a ford intake will probaly bring th most out of your heads, u could go with a gt40 and maybe port and polish it or go with a cobra, i would probaly just go with cobra, your prob not gonna have over 350 and i think cobras can hold up to like 350 or something, so before u get the supercharger, i would say cobra so u dont spend so much on the gt40 and the cobra looks sweet, usually the companys parts all work the bet together
