What IS that thing?

Hi all--

Greasing the 'stang this AM and when I slid to the back to do the U-Joints, I saw a rubber tube coming off of the driver's side of my back axel, about half-way down the axel. The tube was rotten through, so I cut off the bad part and slid some good hose over the fitting and clamped it.

Q: What is this? Where is the other end of the tube?

It's just a vent for the rear end. The open end should hook to a clamp on the underbody.

Yea, whatever you do , DON'T plug it either. And don't drive thru deep water without it. ( I know you know better than that anyway, living in Ponchatoula)

I haven't had to lash pontoons to the mustang to get home yet, but it's been close! I learned early that when they put up the signs that say STANDING WATER ON ROADWAY that aren't kidding. Saw an RX-7 flood out in one "puddle" one time up in Natchitoches. He made it half-way until the wake his pushed caught up with him.

The tube goes up, it looks like, into the trunk, but I can't see where it ends.

Just wondering.

Put a new tube on it and stick it up in the frame rail. You will be OK. I have raced that way for years!
