what is the thermactor air system

i have a 1994 ford mustang gt and im trying to find out what is the thermactor air system. im having a idle issue, when car is hot, car starts to surge and turn off. so far ive replaced TPS sensor,EGR valve and redone vacuum lines,fuel pressure regulator,fuel pump relay, fuel pump. (TPS is not adjustable)i fixed all my DTC's. then i scaned while car was on idle then i got two codes
311 = thermactor air system inoperative(right)
314 = thermactor air system inoperative(left)
.ive been trying to fix this issue with my idle, any help will be appriciated...:nice:

Check the vacuum lines to the AIR valves.

Check for accessory 12 volts to each solenoid. If you put a test light across each solenoid's electrical connector, you can run codes. When the EEC cycles each solenoid, the test light will illuminate. This tells you each one is getting the electrical signal to actuate (the EEC sends a ground to each one to complete the circuit).

You can disconnect the second valve's big hose. Look for air coming to the valve from the first one (the first one vents the discharge at WOT or sends air to your second valve at Non-WOT). If you have air into the second valve, reconnect the hose. Disconnect the output end and see if air comes out one of the ends. If it does, when you apply vacuum to the valve, the output should divert to the other port. See that it does.

Most likely you should have a broken vac line to the valves or an electrical issue to the solenoids. Really check those before even bothering with checking the valve operation (since that's a PITA to do anyhow).

Good luck.
