What is this and is it neccesary?

I just broke the vacuam fittings off the end of it because I couldnt get them off...and now I realize its $46 on ebay (which means its like $1500 at Napa). What does it do and do I need it?

In the ebay auction I found it on its a Vacuam something purge.

Its the charcoal canister purge solenoid for the EVAP system. It vents fuel vapors to the intake manifold to be combusted. If this is left unplugged on the canister end, it won't do too much harm but you will get a nasty smell of fuel under the hood. Left unplugged on the manifold end, and you've got yourself a genuine vacuum leak.

Whatever you do, I'd leave a means for the tank to be vented (do this however you decide).

1TMF pointed out a valid concern, especially if you have a gas appliance in your garage (a pilot light and fuel vapor can equal ah-crap).

The stored vapors from the CC are introduced most-often during cruise - it helps richen the mixture just a hair during EGR-operating conditions.

I'd guess that one of these guys who deleted everything might have the stuff lying around. Matter of fact, I think 95Cobraguy has a friend who just deleted a lot of that stuff. :) He or one of these other guys might be able to help you.

Good luck.
